Patti Smith's Just Kids To Be Filmed
John Logan is writing the script

Patti Smith's Just Kids To Be Filmed

Influential rocker Patti Smith nabbed some slightly different kudos for her memoir Just Kids last year when she won the National Book Award for non-fiction across the pond. Now the tome is getting the movie treatment, with Smith developing a script alongside Aviator/Hugo screenwriter John Logan.

Kids tracks Smith’s relationship with equally legendary photographer Robert Mapplethorpe after they met in 1967 and lived together for five years as their careers took off. Though they went their separate ways before Smith’s seminal Horses album, the pair remained good friends and Mapplethorpe’s work was the inspiration for several of her album covers.

Logan, of course, has had some experience crafting true-life stories into movies, having penned the aforementioned Howard Hughes pic for Martin Scorsese and The Last Samurai. He’s also been behind some hefty fictional films, including Gladiator and Rango. We’re going to let the fact that he also wrote Star Trek: Nemesis slide for now.

There’s no word yet on who might play Smith or Mapplethorpe, but given their history, we’re sure the roles will attract plenty of attention.

aw jesus
this guy is a hack. I can think of no one less suited for this material. Why not go the whole hog and get Uwe Boll to direct it too? In the right hands this could be a great flick. But unfortunately these are very much the wrong hands More
