The Hobbit's Thorin Oakenshield Revealed
Richard Armitage is the final dwarf

18 July 2011  |  Written by Owen Williams

The Hobbit's entire dwarf contingent has been revealed in the last week or so, save only the main man Thorin Oakenshield. Wait no longer, Tolkienites. we have the first image of Richard Armitage in full goblin-cleaving regalia.

Armitage is probably best known to date for the BBC's Spooks and Robin Hood, but he's also about to turn up in Captain America. He's a tall, slim type, so we're not quite getting a sense here of what he'll look like dwarf-ised, but we're liking the battle metal rock star vibe. That sword is presumably Orcrist. The goblins call it Biter.

Not that he ought necessarily to be 100% badass. Thorin fights alongside Gandalf and has his share of heroic moments, but he's also haughty and officious, gets himself captured before anyone else at Mirkwood, makes serious diplomatic gaffes at Laketown and throws a big strop when Bilbo nicks the Arkenstone.

Children of the 80s who spent any time playing Melbourne House's Hobbit game on the Spectrum will also know him as the utter bastard who hindered your every move by sitting down and singing about gold.

See the gallery below if you've missed the rest of the dwarves.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is out on December 14, 2012, with The Hobbit: There and Back Again following a year later.

I am much more interested in what they intend to do about the elves He almost overlooked them in his first three films to give more and more and more, ad nauseum, time to the hobbits........ More

It's gonna be great...
Quite frankly a majority of you are talking shit...Klingon? Surely Klingons look like Dwarfs but a bit taller..lets face it Dwarfs were here first! Beards!? For fucks sake.. as far as I'm concerned all the Dwarfs look great... this story is very close to my heart as its the first proper book I read (at 6 years old) and I know Peter Jackson will be true, along with kicking it into 21st century cinema as he he did with Lord of the Rings. RE: Klingon
L: fish that roared He has a definite klingon vibe which is a pity as most of the dwarves, not the emo ranger, look fantastic. ead on, he looks totally Klingon. Hopefully in action he will look less like Gowran. More

Somebody call the NSPCC
That line about the Spectrum game just made me spit a mouthful of chewed omelette at my 3 year old. She now looks like the Swamp Thing. Thanks Empire. More

RE:
It's not a great photo his hair gets in the way, he doesn't have a Klingon goatee, he has a proper beard which will reduce the Klingon effect. I would have liked Thorin to have a large regal beard and a bit more grey to match the vision I had in my head., but so far I'm confident in the movie, these dwarves look good. Can anyone else see Del Toros influence in these designs? because I'm sure I can. More
