Ruth Wilson Up For Lone Ranger
From Luther to Silver...

12 July 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

Ruth Wilson Up For Lone Ranger

The cast of Disney’s Lone Ranger just got another injection of British talent: Ruth Wilson is now in talks to snatch a major role in the movie.

While Deadline’s story is light on character info, Variety has the scoop that Wilson will be playing Rebecca Reid, the wife of Dan Reid, commander of the Rangers. He also happens to be the brother of John Reid (Armie Hammer), who ends up slipping on the mask to become the eponymous hero alongside sidekick Tonto (Johnny Depp).

Since Reid is known as the “lone” Ranger, we get the feeling that Dan Reid might not be long for the world… But that, of course, is total speculation since little is known about the plot in Justin Haythe’s script.

Gore Verbinski is in the director’s chair for this one, and Tom Wilkinson has been linked to another major role as a tycoon (we’re going to stick to our guess about him being the villain).

It’s good to see Wilson getting higher profile work, though we’re not sure a big Disney blockbuster will exactly stretch her thesping talents. Still, maybe it’ll open a few American doors, since she deserves some exposure after solid work in the TV likes of Jane Eyre and, more recently, Luther. Anyone who can steal scenes from Idris Elba has got to be worth employing as much as possible…
