Kristen Wiig Locks In Imogene
She'll work on the indie dramedy

12 July 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Variety

Kristen Wiig Locks In Imogene

What a difference having starred in the sixth-highest grossing romantic comedy of all time can make! Why, just a couple of years ago, Kristen Wiig was struggling to get passion project comedy Imogene on its feet and now things are looking a little smoother, with Variety reporting that the movie is set to kick off shooting in August.

Wiig, who loved Michelle Morgan’s script and has been championing it for more than two years, is now locked in to play the title character, a mildly successful playwright based in New York who tries to win back her ex-boyfriend by pretending to commit suicide. But what she doesn’t realise is that the incident will see her shoved into the custody of her mother, a notorious gambling addict.

American Splendor co-directors Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini are on board to call the shots and talent agency Anonymous Content will produce the film alongside Maven Pictures, which will make it the first US film produced by Mrs Sting, AKA Trudie Styler.

"We're incredibly grateful to be working with Kristen, Shari, Bob and the extraordinary team on Imogene, Maven's first feature project," said Styler. "Imogene has every element we were looking for: strong writing, remarkable directing talent, a movie star we believe in, a New York setting, and commercial appeal. This exemplifies all the key elements of our vision for Maven's future slate."
