Incidentally, yet another take on the image: It's the end of the story, The Dark Knight has risen to smash through the darkness and let in the light. He has died (in terms of Gotham's faith in him) and he has been resurrected, and he ascends into myth, or to put it another way, "/i], Mr Wayne" More

It couldn't be much more obvious. Don't miss the wood for the trees, folks!
If you remember how the last ended, and what Batman had to do, it makes perfect sense.
This film will pick up from there / from that idea.
