Evangeline Lilly Joins The Hobbit
She's playing an elf...

20 June 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Peter Jackson

Evangeline Lilly Joins The Hobbit

While Peter Jackson and the rest of the Hobbit team have now completed their first block of shooting on the two movies that comprise the adventure, it appears there’s still some room for news, as Jackson hit Facebook today to announce that Lost’s Evangeline Lilly and, even more intriguingly, Barry Humphries, are joining the cast.

Lilly, still best known for her work as Kate on the island-set mystery/sci-fi series (though she'll be seen in the upcoming Real Steel), has signed on to play a new character that Jackson describes in his latest posting thusly: “the Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Her name means 'daughter of Mirkwood' and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing! (No, there is no romantic connection to Legolas.)"

Humphries, meanwhile, is the man behind Aussie comedy character Dame Edna Everage. But Edna, possibly the world’s most famous housewife, will not be showing up in Middle-earth. Instead, Humphries is on to play the Goblin King, utilising Gollum-style performance capture.

Between these two and the recent casting of Luke Evans and Benedict Cumberbatch, Jackson reports that he’s filled pretty much all the major roles on the film. Now we just want to see footage…

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will amble into cinemas on December 14 next year, followed by The Hobbit: There and Back Again in 2013.

Are you guys just making this up? It doesn't seem like the most natural fit. But I'll admit I loved the work of Evangeline Lilly in Lost. _____________________________ I live at home with my twins Friends Cookierl=http://hubpages.com/hub/FurReal_GoGo_My_Walkin _Pup]furreal gogo my walkin pupare adorable. Does Jackson think that 13 Dwarves, a Wizard and a Hobbit plus sundry other characters (many of whom plucked from other Middle Earth books) is simply not enough for a big popcorn movie? RE: Why?
One of the things I genuinely disliked about the Lord Of The Rings films was the extra, superfluous crap Jackson chucked in, presumably because he felt no story can exist without a love interest and so-on. I'm beginning to worry that there's a chance The Hobbit could make those films look like the most faithful adaptations in the history of cinema. More

Great!
I think Barry Humphries is inspired casting! Can't wait to see the Goblin King in his lair! :-)... Evangeline Lilly is also a great choice for an elf maiden...I am really, really looking forward to the Hobbit films! More

CGI Goblins?
It's a shame they're going down the CGI route for goblins (or at least this character). The costume and make up goblins in LoTR were fantastic, so this seems like a backwards step to me. I remember when Guillermo was set to direct, he said he wanted less CGI and more animatronic stuff. Look's like Jackson has ditched this approach. More
