New John Carter Teaser Poster
First look at the Mars man's one-sheet

15 June 2011  |  Written by Phil de Semlyen

A new name and now a new teaser poster. John Carter – the erstwhile John Carter Of Mars – is shaping up for the big screen someone out there in movieland. Excited to see what Pixar magician Andrew Stanton is doing with Edgar Rice Burroughs' sci-fi? Us too.

The one-sheet obviously doesn't shed too much light, but it does at least give a glimpse of a stacked Taylor Kitsch as the man himself, John Carter. For those not familiar with the Burrough's tale, before that '-of Mars' bit, Carter is a soldier who leaves the army and is mysteriously transported to the red planet.

There he gets embroiled in a colossal civil war between the two factions: the giant green Martians (Thomas Hayden Church, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton) and the more human red Martians (Lynn Collins, Dominic West, James Purefoy). Can't helping thinking that's a long way to travel just to get stuck in another bloody great war. Ho hum.

We're picking the side with McNulty, Soloman Kane and Silver Fox on it. Find out where Carter stacks his chips when John Carters gets released in the UK and the US on March 9, 2012*.

* The date on the poster is in American datespeak - reverse the '3' and the '9' if you're in the UK.

Looks cool, but I really hope they bring back the 'of Mars' for the big stuff. Calling the film 'John Carter' is unutterably stupid. It was fine for Michael Clayton, but not for this... More

So. Taylor Kitsch is forgoing a shirt for this film? I'm in. Honestly though, I'm really intrigued by this, I love Kitsch is Friday Night Lights, I'm really looking forward to seeing whether he can carry a film like this. More
