New Smurfs Trailer Online
Oh. My. Smurf.

26 May 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Yahoo

Forget Red Band and Green Band trailers, this Smurfs trailer should probably be Blue Band. Why? We’re not exactly sure, but it certainly features an awful lot of Smurf-related humour. The new promo is online and can be Smurfed out below.

Sadly, what it really features is an awfully familiar batch of jokes. We’re given a little bit more of the back story – with the little blue heroes (and heroine) forced to flee from their village through an Enchanted-style portal to New York, where they attempt to evade capture by evil, cackling/accident prone wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria, setting his subtlety level to “zero”) and causing good-natured chaos for humans Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays.

It feels like we’ve seen every beat before, just given an extra Smurfy coating. Lots of pop culture gags. Lots of confusion. Lots of Smurfs-out-of-water jokes. But who knows? Maybe it’s secretly a great film hiding in the guise of a lazy kiddie pic?

Take a look at the trailer and let us know if you agree. Or are you looking forward to this one with barely-contained Smurf worship?

The likes of Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, George Lopez, Paul Reubens, Kenan Thompson, BJ Novak, Anton Yelchin and John Oliver give voice to the CG Smurfy leads.

The Smurfs will Smurf out on August Smurf. Sorry… August 10.
