As eagle-eyed subscribers, quick off-the-shelf purchasers, website readers, Facebookers and Twitter users might have already noticed, Empire got the scoop on Transformers 3 this month with Sentinel and Optimus appearing on the front cover.
And with Transformers: Dark Of The Moon being on the front cover, this means a feature inside the magazine. And a feature inside the magazine means more than a few words with the big man himself, Michael Bay, a couple of which we’d like to share with you on the website.
More specifically, words about his use of this new fangled 3D – an extra dimension for Mr. Bayhem to insert bigger, badder and kaboomier explosions all upside your retinas:
“Ridley Scott once said, ‘Michael Bay and I have always been shooting in 3D.’ What he meant by that is that I always put background, mid-ground, foreground in all my shots.”
This time around, Bay decided to bring the third dimension in with style, bringing in James Cameron’s tech and team to take the shape-changing robots up a gear:
“Cameron was like, ‘Mike, directors like you have to do 3D or it is going to die.’ I love it when you see these things: ‘The 3D event of the year!’ You see it every movie. There was a recent movie where you go in and before it starts they put up a little plate: ‘These scenes were not shot in 3D.’ Are you kidding? I think our 3D works really well with the robots, the size, the girth, the weight of it… it’s spectacular.”
Now you don’t read sentences like that very often, do you? For more equally AWESOME quotes, run to your nearest newsagents and beg them for a copy of Empire. Or, alternatively, you could subscribe. Or download it to your iPad. We’ve got the lot here, basically.
