Fox Has Delirium
Based on Lauren Oliver's novel

25 February 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

Depending on how you look at it, love can either be the greatest thing since sliced bread or, if you believe one song in particular, it can tear you apart. But what if the government decreed that love was simply a weakness in humanity, and a something that should be wiped out? That world doesn’t sound like a fun place to visit, but Fox 2000 thinks it has the ingredients for compelling teen-focused drama, and has bought up the rights to Lauren Oliver’s book Delirium, which has exactly that concept as its driving narrative.

Of course, the fact that Oliver’s novel went straight into the New York Times bestseller list didn’t hurt either. It also already has a prior relationship with the writer, having snapped up her previous  book, Before I Fall – which features an equally joyful take on life, since it follows a high school girl reliving her last day on Earth.

And it would appear that the studio arm definitely wants to be in business with Oliver, signing on to a first look deal with the company that she co-founded, Paper Lantern Lit, likely hoping that she’ll either write a few more bestsellers that can be sent to the movie factory or track down other authors who can do the same…
