Gabriele Muccino Up For Adaline
He may direct the supernatural romance

After directing Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds, Italian director Gabriele Muccino has been flitting between making Italian films and working on developing projects in America. He’s currently gearing up to work with Gerard Butler on sports comedy drama Playing The Field, but he’s also looking to line up work beyond that, entering talks to direct Lakeshore Entertainment’s long-gestating supernatural pic Adaline.

The plot follows a young woman involved in an accident just as the 19th century ticks over into the 20th. The incident renders her ageless and for years she’s content to live her seemingly immortal life alone. But then she meets a man and starts to think that maybe she’s ready to give in to the forces of time.

Adaline – which started life as The Age of Adaline – has had a patchy development history so far. Katherine Heigl was attached last year but left the project last November and The Bounty Hunter’s Andy Tennant had signed on to direct. Now it looks like the producers are sweeping the deck clear, aiming to nab a new director and hunting around for a likely star…
