Christian Bale Talks Dark Knight Rises
It's his farewell to the Bat...probably

This may not come as a huge surprise but it does come straight from the horse's mouth: Christian Bale, talking to Empire last month, said that The Dark Knight Rises will be his last Batman movie...probably.

"All I know is the likelihood that this will be the last one," says the star. "Well, I wouldn't say definitely. If Chris goes, 'Hey, I've got another story I think could be interesting,' then yeah, great, I'd go do that. I always assumed it would be three, but I could be wrong. I don't know if there's something wrong with me, but I don't feel any pressure."

Nolan's on record as saying that the next film will be the last chapter in his Batman franchise, so we're going to assume that's it, but hey! It's nice that Bale isn't locking anything out. It's clear throughout our interview that he and Christopher Nolan continue to enjoy a great relationship, and also that Bale's looking forward to the new members of the gang.

"[Tom Hardy] seems like he's balls-out, doesn't he? Like he really goes for it.He looked like a guy that was happy to go to extremes, to really push it. Looks like he could go the distance..."

For the full interview, which includes a whole lot on The Fighter - including an explanation why, despite featuring famed hotheads Bale and director David O.Russell, everything was calm on set, and which role it is that Bale really wants to play (it's not obvious!) - pick up the latest issue of Empire, which is on sale now. You know you want it.

I understand how The Dark Knight Rises could be the final part of a trilogy in terms of the spine of the story starting in Batman Begins, and I appreciate that maybe Chris Nolan & Jonah Nolan would like to move on and do different things (Christian Bale might want to - which is great, but what does Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman want?). However, this Gotham Universe that has been created is so uniquely special, that I think it would be a big disappointment if it was ended pre More

RE: Aronofsky?
I'm not sure Arnowski'd would make a good Batman, fine director no doubt but lets not forget while of course it shouldn't be one dimensional this is ultimately an action movie and directing a well paced one is a skill in itself. I think Ficher would do a great job and I'd have liked to have seen him do Wolverine (properly). More

RE: Christian Bale Talks Dark Knight Rises
Some people are insane. Why shouldn't WB keep going post Nolan? The question is a matter of approach, whether to continue the continuity with new personnel or to reinvent again. There are many different kinds of Batman movie that could be made, and it's not as though when Nolan goes Schumacher is going to get the next one. Nolan has shown WB that a 'grown up' Batflick can work. And whoever gets the gig after him has a shitload to live up to. Remember, Schumacher was drafted in when WB More

RE: The Dark Knight Rises
L: JIm R L: Concise_Statement The Dark Knight Rises will be the last in Nolan's franchise. The first two have been amazing, and I'd hate to see them deteriorate by being taken too far. Really excited for this one though.he party with which I'm most concerned in that respect, is Warner Bros. who are after all, a film studio that will look at profits first and see whether they can drag out the franchise beyond Nolan's tenure, simply because the numbers add up. I bring it up in light of More
