Alien Series Has A Blu-ray Release Date
Roll on the Anthology on October 25!

15 July 2010  |  Written by Helen O'Hara

submit to reddit

One of the most eagerly-anticipated Blu-ray discs ever has a release date! The Alien Anthology will emerge on Blu-ray on October 25, all gussied up and ready to blow you out of your comfy spot on the sofa.

We're assured that the release will include all four films and all content previously released for the series, including "the 1991/1992 laserdisc releases, the 1999 'Legacy' release and 2003's groundbreaking Alien Quadrilogy release". It'll also include both theatrical cuts and Special Editions / Director's Cuts of all four films, to provide maximum xenomorphic horror for all. We're told that that's 60 hours of content and about 12,000 images to boot - so if you're an Alien completist, this just might be the best thing ever.

L: Barneyross1 I Hope these quality bastards are in HD!!!!! those Bastards being Ridders, Cambo and (Ahem it ain't that bad!) Finch! Don't care for the French New Wave version....who wrote that one....was it Whedon...(oh yes...the Avengers!)? xcept that Whedon's original screenplay was by all accounts tampered with and the final film bears little resemblence to his ideas. Hopefully Marvel won't interfere in the same way. I'll take Whedon's work over all the talentless hacks in Hol More

I remember paying £150 for the set that came in the Alien head, still the pride of my collection and I'll be buying this on release day due to it being BluRay. Lets hope they didn't clean it up too much. More

Extras, Extras!!!
the new content looks really tempting, including the new in movie option. also who wouldn't want to see the james remar/hicks and burke coccon footage from 'aliens'? though this could all be released again with even more stuff when the 'alien' prequels are released. More

L: Rgirvan44 n't buy it. I don't see how this is a massive rip off or anything. The Quadrilogy was released quite a while ago now.I am a massive Alien geek so I'll pick it up. But you can't accuse Fox of making a quick buck. I mean, the new extras alone would be usually enough to fill up a normal DVD/BR set, let alone all the stuff from the old set. They have also done a total remaster of the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 getting some of the actors in to redub some scenes. Of course if More

Aside from the pointless killing of Hicks and Newt, the extended cut of Alien 3 is vastly ignored/underrated. It's actually an excellent addition to the saga. Well shot, beautifully designed and the acting is on the money. An Alien film through and through... More

Scott's Honour
I hope that Ridley Scott becomes heavily involved with this project since pretty much anything he had a hand in the remastering of his projects looked and sounded amazing. The transfer results on Blade Runner: The Final Cut was just breathtaking. Let's just hope the Alien Quadrilogy doesn't go the way of the Gladiator Blu-Ray, where I believe Scott was not involved, which resulted in a terrible transfer. Someone on this forum has said that the people responsible for the Blade Runner remastering More

RE: Emmm,
Sounds great! But I’m not getting overly exited until I get word on whether or not they have given the films the HD transfers they deserve. Apparently the recent Predator Blu Ray saw Fox drop the ball rather considerably. They cannot fuck these up! Well, actually who gives a shit what they do with Resurrection as I’ll probably use that disk as a coaster. But the first three (I have a little love for Alien 3 too) need to be top spec transfers for the amount of time this has taken. If memory serv More
