Marvel’s Dr Strange Conjures Writers
Conan team scripting superhero

While Marvel was just rumoured to be considering making shorts featuring some of its lesser-known superheroes, it appears that one of the names mention for that possibility, Dr Strange, is actually going to get his break in a full-length feature, with Conan remake scribes Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer hired to take a crack at the good Doctor.

Strange was originally born from the brains of Stan Lee and art genius Steve Ditko, and began life as a selfish New York surgeon named Stephen Strange who loses his ace slice ‘n’ dice skills in a car crash. After falling on hard times, he visits a healer known as the Ancient One (because being named Bob just wouldn’t cut it for a mystical guru type) in the Himalayas and learns to tap into psychic powers. In recognition of his selfless efforts to thwart evil fellow disciple Baron Mordo, he’s taught the mystical arts and sets out to defeat other nasty sorcerers and various villains.

According to Deadline, the character has had a long, torturous history in Hollywood, been picked up by more than one studio including Sony, Dimension and Paramount along the way and attracted a revolving door pack of writers and directors, with names such as Bob Gale, Wes Craven, Stephen Norrington and Guillermo del Toro. But with Marvel securing the rights and now in a position to make the movie itself, it looks like Dr Strange could well be the first pic it produces under the new deal with Disney.

thee doctor strange!
i remember spiderman took years to make before it came on screen because of distributors and writer but it was worth the wait esspecially spiderman 2 which for me is the best super heroe film ever made coz it is coded in multi levels and i measure every super hero film from that stand point. dr strange could have potential to beat it if the find a good intellegent horror director or good dark humour director like tim burton, only one man to play dr strange as far as im concerned jim caviezel and More

Good news
Hopefully it won't be all Disney-ed up and Marvel will keep all creative control over it and may even touch upon some dark elements. Good to see some lesser known characters like Dr. Strange starting to make the move though. More

Could be cool
A Marvel "magic" film would be new, Thor will open the door for "other realms" seeing as some of it is set in Asgard but Dr Strange would be a real exploration of alternate dimensions etc. Wonder if it would be somehow tied into the shared universe or stand alone? More

Ill wait my judgement until Ive seen Conan, thats a movie I dont have high hopes for. But I am all in for that B-caracter B-movie aproach. Could be a lot of fun and a great school for would be directors. More
