Rockwell To Deliver Sweet Baby Jesus?
Co-starring with Pixie Lott

25 May 2010  |  Written by Owen Williams  |  Source: Deadline

He played several immaculate conceptions in Moon, and now, according to Deadline, Sam Rockwell is circling the role of Sweet Baby Jesus' father Joe, starring alongside Brit popstress Pixie Lott, who's already signed up as the modern-day Mary.

The new Nativity is being set up as a French/British co-production. The jist is that Joe and his pregnant girlfriend Mary are on their way to Bethlehem, Maryland when they get swept up in a media furore over a Second Coming. Kim Cattrall will be playing Mary's mother Darlene (Mary's parents aren't mentioned at all in the Bible, but the Apocrypha names her mother as Anne, fact fans), and Bette Midler will show up to tell the pair that there's no room at the inn.

Lauded for Moon, and fresh off Iron Man 2, it's not immediately clear what might attract Rockwell* to the project, which will be directed by Peter Hewitt (Garfield). Perhaps he had the same response to Steve Blair's screenplay as producer Philippe Rebboah: "I loved it. It made me laugh out loud." Hopefully more than once.

Shooting starts in August, and will take place in Maryland and Ireland.

Oh no...
In fact the more I read the article, I know this is what it's going to be. Sweet baby Jesus? Very common colloquial Irish way of declaring astonishment. Kim Cattrall? Already did a half decent - half bollix job of an Irish accent with Brendan Gleeson in The Tiger's Tail... Please don't be right, please don't be right, please don't be right... More

Ireland!?!?!?!?!?!
Is anyone else worried about the fact it's being filmed here!? Names like Joe, Mary and Anne are pretty common as muck here (for the very epiphanaic reasons mentioned in the storyline)... Please don't let them all have Hollywood Oirish accents... Please. Sam, for the sake of all that's good and Duncan Jones, DON'T DO IT!!! More

Sam Rockwell instantly makes any film better
Even the shite ones. And Pixie Lott? Well, she's very pretty. Though I have massive reservations about a producer who says things like "It made me laugh out loud." Surely that's just a normal laugh? If he'd of actually said "L.O.L." I'd expect Rockwell to destroy him. More
