Disney's Re-Working Cinderella
A new pitch from Aline Brosh McKenna

17 May 2010  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

The Devil Wears Prada writer Aline Brosh McKenna has become even more of a hot property around Hollywood of late. With several projects based on her scripts on the go, she’s also sealed a deal with Disney to write a live-action re-working of Cinderella.

Deadline New York has it that she’s been hawking a pitch with a new version of the tale around town one that will hopefully scrape our memories clean of such dodgier efforts as A Cinderella Story and re-imaginings like Ever After. That said, she did write 27 Dresses, so let’s keep those expectations tamped down a little for now.

Still, Disney figured that it would be wise to give the character a fresh start under its family friendly banner. Plus, given the success of Alice In Wonderland, the Mouse House is understandably eager to get more literary tales into the re-imagination blender.

Simon Kinberg is producing, having struck up a good working relationship with the writer when they shared polishing duties on Date Night, which led to them submitting a pitch to Paramount and JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot production company for an untitled film that remains wrapped in Abrams’ trademark secrecy.

Brosh McKenna’s name is also attached to a variety of other scripts, having worked on drafts for Paramount's Morning Glory and Fox's We Bought A Zoo, which Cameron Crowe is attached to direct
