Paul WS Anderson Casts His Musketeers
And Christoph Waltz is Richelieu!

11 May 2010  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Heat Vision Blog

While news just broke that Doug Liman is officially signed on to direct Warners’ Sherlock Holmes-style take on The Three Musketeers, Paul WS Anderson has answered back by announcing a wealth of casting for his 3D version of the story, with Logan Lerman, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelsen and Matthew Macfadyen all jumping aboard.

So who’s who? Let’s start with the big guns, the musketeers… Stevenson, last seen in The Book Of Eli but still best known for Rome, is Porthos; Clash Of The Titans’ Evans is Athos and Macfadyen, about to hit the screen in Robin Hood, is Aramis. Percy Jackson star Lerman, meanwhile, will play D’Artagnan, who leaves home to train as a member of the French king’s royal household in the 1600s.

On the boo-hiss villainous side, Christoph Waltz will follow his criminal turn in The Green Hornet with another baddie in the devious Cardinal Richelieu, with Mikkelsen as his main agent, Rochefort.

The Heat Vision Blog also reports that Orlando Bloom is being offered the role of the Duke Of Buckingham, who causes further trouble for our heroes.

Oh, and to no one’s surprise, Anderson has also coaxed his better half, Milla Jovovich to play a part, in this case Milady de Winter, a former flame of Athos and someone Anderson describes as “a 17th century Bond girl”.

Anderson scribbled the script with Andrew Davies, and he’s planning to kick off shooting this September.

Waltz? I got interested.
Okay. I'm checking this out JUST because Waltz in it and I want to see the awkward sex scene between 18 year old Logan and the *ahem* much older Mila. And anything with Ray Stevenson in is win- so yes Anderson is shite but, the cast and the writer makes up a helluva lot. More

RE: Mads
Shaping up to be a decent cast but if Anderson's involved then it will likely be shit - imo he gets a pass for Event Horizon but the rest of his output has ranged from just bad to dreadful so I'm not holding any hope for this one. Much keener to see what Doug Liman can do with the material...after Jumper he could do with a return to form. More

Mads
Well Mads Mikkelsen has to play Rochefort, I mean the part requires some facial scarring correct? (I am surprised he wasn't cast as Freddie in the new Nightmare movie...) I shall hold judgment for now, but as long as there is swash and buckle how bad can it be.... oh hang on its Paul Anderson... More

Oh...
What a pity. When I read (rather too quickly) "Paul", "Anderson" and "Musketeers", I got all excited. And this would be very exciting (particularly given that cast) if, as a whole, the headline had read "Paul Thomas Anderson casts his Musketeers". Now THAT I would pay to see. What a pity indeed. RE: Nonsense!
I'm hoping they are being ironic...   Anyone with a "hit list" which includes Resident Evil, Mortal Combat, and AVP should be avoided at all costs... More

Nonsense!
Why are people that say things like "Paul Anderson is a legend" allowed to post here?! This will be an awful movie! Anderson hasn't made a good film since Event Horizon More

It's a shame that Anderson's directing this because that's a great cast. It doesn't who is in it because he'll mess it up though. More

So hang on...
We're going to get two new Three Muskateer movies? Yet Paul wants to do it in 3D (which will not work if you ask me), has a massive stellar cast on board, including his missus. So my question to Doug Liman is, will Matt Damon feature in yours? :D More

Great Casting!
I love clasics and this casting is very good. I want to watch it already! More

You can cast who you want...
But it will still be shit.. in 3D More

Paul WS Anderson Casts His Musketeers
Well I'll be D’Artagnan-ed (geddit?). That cast is possibly the best reason to get excited about another Musketeer film - although I have to admit that the version starring Jack Bauer and Tim Curry holds a soft spot in my heart...in fairness all Mr PWS Anderson had to do was announce Mads Mikkelsen and Christoph Waltz for me and I was clambering atop my pony, ready to swash and buckle... RE: Paul WS Anderson Casts His Musketeers
Indeed in regards to the cast, the script must be good. I wonder who Liman can pull out of the bag, or whether he'll shelve his version now. Stevenson is always a must-see. More

Blimey...
That's a hell of a cast for a Paul Anderson movie. Andrew Davies must have worked wonders on the script to convince them to sign on. More
