Play Space Paranoids Online
Tron Legacy viral goes live

07 May 2010  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Disney

Ah, the '80s… A time when graphics were blocky, characters were basic and there was no Magical Internet over which to pwn n00bs. No, your mettle was primarily tested by coin-gobbling arcade games and the early home systems in which invaders arrived from space and Pac Man ate ghosts. Disney, as part of its ongoing viral for Tron Legacy, wants to return you to those simpler times, releasing a few levels of Space Paranoids, better known as the game from Tron.

We’ve been teased and tantalised with word for a while now that the fictional Encom company from both films would be putting a playable version online, and it has arrived at last.

The controls are a little fidgety, but there’s plenty of attention to detail – in that the vector visuals are suitably chunky and your tank makes the appropriate electronic hum.

Oh, and because it’s part of the film’s promo campaign, there are hidden rewards for winning battles against the flying Recognizers and other enemies – First Showing has been keeping track of pictures and more discovered already.

In related news, Disney has also released some new pics, albeit just shots of players in their disc game costume, and not actual images from the movie itself. You can see one below.

Tron Legacy is out on December 26 here in the UK.

Codes to the concept art!
In each of the 15 levels of Space Paranoids, there's a wall you can drive the tank through, behind which you'll find a barcode, which translates into a number that can be entered into the console at www.helloflynn.com (the narrative of the viral states that this site is an old server of Flynn's that was snuck out by disgruntled employee of Encom): the codes to each piece of art are: SECTOR 1: 799904778091 SECTOR 2: 100371028938 SECTOR 3: 410293467815 SECTOR 4: 011237800912 SECTOR 5: 6 More
