Thor - Revealed!
First picture of Marvel's Norse God

30 April 2010  |  Written by Chris Hewitt  |  Source: Yahoo! Movies

submit to reddit

He may or may not make his first appearance - sort of - in Iron Man 2, but now Yahoo! Movies have the first official image of Chris Hemsworth as Marvel's Norse God, Thor.

With his enchanted hammer, Mjolnir, elsewhere for the time being, the moody shot focuses more on Thor’s costume which, as any comic book fan would know, had the potential to look truly silly. Not this, though: while we’d hesitate to use the term, ‘bad-ass’, it’s a lot cooler than we could have imagined, while remaining true to Jack Kirby’s iconic visuals.

The discs, the red cape, the blond face fuzz and long hair are all here, but with a bit of a futuristic twist – the scale mail that covers Thor’s bulging biceps, for instance – that is utterly bad-ass. Dammit, we said it. But that’s just our opinion – in yours, does Hemsworth look the part?

Kenneth Branagh’s Thor – which marks the big-screen debut of the God of Thunder – is set for release on May 5, 2011.

Very Good.
They handled it well, they could have went over board and made it so comic and camp, or they could have toned it down to much to be darker that it was Batman. It's completey nothing like Kirby's Thor, its exactly Coipel's Thor. But I think he just a little skinny to be Thor. But Kenneth Branagh should handle it well, I'm not just saying that because im a fellow Northern Irish boy, and he was in my dads class at school. More

Not Kirby
Everyone is saying it looks very Kirby-esque with a modern twist. No. It's not. This is an almost exact replica of the current Thor costume as designed by Olivier Coipel... http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/w p-content/uploads/2007/10/thor6.jpg More

RE: This dost look cool, methinks!
Thor has been banished to Earth by his father Odin for being cocky and reckless. He lands in New Mexico as the arid, sandy landscape is in stark (hehe, Iron Man pun!) contrast to the more idyllic landscapes of Valhalla, the mythical land of the Norse Gods. I'm so happy to be a geek. More

This dost look cool, methinks!
Got home from seeing Iron Man 2 and its post-credits teaser for Thor (for Thor: tongue twister!) to finding this suspiciously well-timed news story showing the man himself. All looks good so far. Can't wait. This is one god I will have faith in. What is actually happening in the post-credits sequence anyway? Is it just his hammer they've found in the crater, and if so, why? Or is he meant to be in there too? And again, if so, why? Why?! More

O.M.G.
Just got back from Iron Man 2 and while the film was just one step shy of dissapointing, the end credits scene was the best part of the whole film! so to come back and see the first image of Thor is the cherry on the proverbial cake! as for the character's look: excellent costume but I hope his hair is a little longer. we want Thor to look like Triple H, not Richard Branson. Missing the helmet in that picture but apart from that he looks like he just walked out of the comics - it's got the Kirby look with the modern style thrown in too. About time we got a shot of the title character and I think they've nailed it. I still think he'll have an outfit more like his Ultimates appearance while on earth but if this is his Asgard garb then they've got it just right imo. More
