We reported last month that Twilight wranglers Summit Entertainment had been looking at some experienced directors to bring the final novel, Breaking Dawn, to the screen across a likely two movies. Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola and Bill Condon were all rumoured and now Variety brings word that Condon is in final talks to sign up. Apparently the deal is going smoothly, which tells us Condon has yet to read the actual book, detailing Bella and Edward’s marital consummation of their simmering love thang, and the bloody, violent birth of hyper-intelligent crossbreed daughter Renesmee. It has been variously described as bonkers and brutal, so it won’t be an easy job. Melissa Rosenberg, the one constant behind the camera for the franchise, is working on the scripts now. Condon had set up Salmon Fishing In The Yemen to shoot this year, but if he takes the Dawn gig, Summit’s notorious tight schedule will mean he’ll have to put it aside for a while…
