Rachel Weisz Rumoured For Bond 23
As head of Quantum

30 March 2010  |  Written by Owen Williams  |  Source: Cinema Blend

submit to reddit

It's the merest hint of a whiff of a rumour, to the extent that even the source, Cinema Blend, are at pains to say they're not sure they believe it. But the story goes that Rachel Weisz, former squeeze of reported director Sam Mendes and recent co-star of Daniel Craig (in Dream House) is being seriously considered for a plum role in Bond 23. Not as a bond-girl, but as the villain.

Blend say their man on the inside has been proved right in the past (he called Black Widow being in Iron Man 2, for example), even while emphasising that "things can change in a heartbeat" and the process at the moment is merely brainstorming (not to mention that MGM's internal ructions will likely significantly delay proceedings).

But we know that Peter Morgan has been working on the script for a while now, so even if Weisz proves to be a false lead, it's just possible that this could be our first hint of an uber-villainess heading up the shady organisation that Bond has been tracking since Casino Royale

We've had a female Bond villain before though: Sophie Marceau's Elektra King in The World is Not Enough. Scarily, that's eleven years ago now, but in Bond terms it's still recent memory. So take this with a cellar full of salt for now, and remain coolly unconvinced. But by all means speculate wildly below. If Quantum has a female figurehead (an M in negative?) who would be the best possible casting?

Weisz would be a seriously cool and kick ass villain.
Rachel Weisz has the sex appeal, the brains and the raw acting talent to make this role her own. Best news i have heard for this movie. More

NO WAY!
So the criminal mastermind behind Quantum is...Rachel Weisz??? Jesus, no, they can't be serious. For fuck's sake, hire a major talent like Anthony Hopkins or something, not her. Bond wants revenge for the death of Vesper, so how can Bond beat up a woman? Bloody stupid. The producers fucked up "Quantum of Bollocks", they'd better get it right with this one. More

Bond Villain
Rachel Weisz would be awesome, however if you want a female bond villain with the same qualities as Dench's M, whilst being alluring and a bit of a temptress, it has to be Helen Mirren. She has the kudos as an actress, she has an incredible look, and she can pull of a pretty convincing eastern-European accent (she has Russian heritage of course). That would be a cool villain and one that could turn the screws on Craig anyday. More

W
W being the opposite of M. Anywho, I haven't seen Smidgen of Depression yet as I'm not much of a Bond fan. But I am ever so slightly in love with Rachel Weisz so that might be get interested again. More

RE: Oh pretty pretty please....
Idris Elba as the new 'arm' of Quantum i'd settle for Weisz as the top brass! Mirren could also be very interesting... maybe having a past history tied in with Dench's M. More

Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Connie Nielsen, Daryl Hannah or Laura Linney, i'm sure all will be great. More

Oh pretty pretty please....
Let us have rachel Weisz as a villainess, if they insist on sticking with the seriousness she'd be an awesome Ice Queen, no need for Rosamund 'death for breakfast' Pike style innuendo when you have some proper actresses on screen. Now all we need to be complete is a suitably haughty money penny More

RE:
It sounds like a rethread of Sophie Marceau being the villain, Weisz would be a better fit to play Moneypenny. More

Interesting... Weisz is a great actress. She'd be perfect. If not her then someone like Tilda Swinton in her Michael Clayton mode. More

Mirren's a good choice, Noelg25. She'd be a great parallel to Dench and there's even the link to Peter Morgan. However it would be an interesting plot strand by having a villain that Bond wants to make sexy time with, but also kill to avenge Vespers death (but he should really let that go now...QoS was enough mourning)! RE:
producers have any sense they will make this the perfect opportunity for the reveal of Blofeld as head of Quantum, played by Malkovich More

Good idea. After the last few films it would be a nice change to have a Bond babe who can actually act. Weisz has been one of my faves for years and the chance of her showing up is enough to raise my interest in a franchise that I grew weary of part way through the Brosnan years. More

With Sam Mendes directing and Peter Morgan writing, they could cast Tyler Perry as the main love interest, and itd still work. And with Rachel Weisz on top of that, this has the potential to be one of the best Bonds yet. Looking forward to it!! More

do pay attention James...
really! i wish the bond producers would stop trying to be clever and get on with their film! its been quite a while and all this secrecy....its not necessary! just three tips: 1. JB is a spy, he's not Jason Bourne or anything similar. Lets have some espionage. 2. JB is british and a snob. could this please be evident in the films? 3. JB likes a drink, a woman and a quip. He is also amoral - again...put it on the screen! And finally, what happened to the Jack Reacher film! More

If you ask me...
Dame Helen Mirren would be to Bond what Vanessa Redgrave was to Mission Impossible. More

Rachel Weisz would be perfect for the role.
She has the acting chops, the beauty and the brains to be a memorable Bond Villain, especially if she's the mastermind behind the last two films. Weisz is the best choice for the role. More
