Rose McGowan Joins Conan
She's half-human, half-witch, all evil

In what we're guessing is a final bit of principal casting, Rose McGowan has signed on to join Marcus Nispel's Conan, playing a character Variety describes as an "evil half-human, half-witch" who - and we're going out on a limb here - causes trouble for our Cimmerian hero.

McGowan's casting must cause speculation over the fate of the planned Red Sonja film. After all, last we heard McGowan was set to play the lead, and since that story exists in the same universe as Conan, it's a bit odd to cast her as a very different character here. Either they're messing with Sonja's (admittedly confused) backstory, or they're giving her an evil twin, or that film's gone on the backburner or been recast.

McGowan joins Jason Momoa as Conan, as well as Rachel Nichols as love interest Tamara, Stephen Lang as the big bad Khalar Singh, Ron Perlman as Conan's old man Corin and Said Taghmaoui and Bob Sapp.

Shooting started on Monday in Bulgaria, so look out for this in 2011.

Having seen Red Sonja umpteen times as a child...
...I feel compelled to point out that Sonja did indeed have an evil wicked sister. Bridgette Nielsen lopped her head off at the end of the movie, before she went off to meet Stallone, go all mentalified and unsexy. The movie actually featured about 26 slo-mo head-loppings. Therefore to a ten-year-old who'd managed to rent a 15-rated video from Barkers Video Library, it was great. As far as Conan being called Kalidor in the movie, I seem to remember reading it was purely a rights issue whic More

Heh, heh!
Rodriguez seems to be playing one of the oldest tricks in the book...."Hey, I'm a film director. Wanna be famous?"... "Well sure"..."Ok, just put this skimpy warrior costume on and let me take some test shots"...You sly dog! More

Arnie did this in Red Sonja, didn't he?
Arnie played a totally seperate role in Brigette Nielsen's poor version on Red Sonja as Prince Cona--, er.. I mean Prince Kalidor, so realy, what's to worry about. This whole movie seems to be shaping into another Scorpion King rather than a decent stab at a Conan movie. Only real Conan pedigree here is Ron Perlman, who has voiced Conan a few times. ^sigh^ I think if i only see one Schwarzeneger related remake\reboot this year it'll be Predators.... More

What did happen to Red Sonja? They did a cool poster for it and everything. I can't help but think that they couldn't get funding for it.. it was a pretty tough sell. Oh well, at least Robert Rodriguez got her to dress up, bet he had a blast More
