Clint Is The People's Choice
Poll names Eastwood America's No. 1

28 January 2010  |  Written by Owen Williams  |  Source: Harris Interactive

Clint Eastwood, everyone's favourite bounty hunter / maverick cop / grumpy old man / photographer of bridges, has knocked Denzel Washington from his three-year perch as America's favourite star, this year's Harris Poll reveals. If Gran Torino really is his final in-front-of-the-camera gig, it's proved to be not a bad one to bow out with.

The online survey, first undertaken in 1994, took place in the first half of December. Denzel is now at number three, with Johnny Depp, favourite among 18-32 year olds, soaring up the list to second place (he was eighth last year). Will Smith, Harrison Ford and Angelina Jolie have all dropped out of the equation.

With The Proposal and The Blind Side, it was a top year for Sandra Bullock, who's the highest rated of the three women on the list, above Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. Apparently it's Generation X (33-44 year olds) that particularly plump for Sandra.

But it's not all about box office visibility: Marion Morrison, aka John Wayne is at number 7, pilgrims. Those yankee folks still love a cowboy.

Here's the full list:

1. Clint Eastwood

2. Johnny Depp

3. Denzel Washington

4. Sandra Bullock

5. Tom Hanks

6. George Clooney

7. John Wayne

8. Meryl Streep

9. Morgan Freeman

10. Julia Roberts

Sounds nice, of course people will moan, but Clint would pull it off. With his current role, he could pull of anything. What about a Gran Torino prequel, set in the war, directed by Clint, narrated by Clint, and featuring Hugh Jackman as the young Walt? Stupid idea? I'd watch it! More

Well, that's made my day! (sorry...)
It just shows that talent will out in the end. God Bless Clint is all I can say. The man totally deserves this. Some of the ommissions are odd though but maybe this is something to do with favourites combined with talent. I'm a big fan of the Duke too, so that's good (the GOOD movies, not the politics). But this is still Clint's world and I will be genuinely very sad when the great man is no longer with us. More
