Weaver Talks New Ghostbusters
What has she seen of the script?

14 December 2009  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Channel 4 News

As the development of Ghostbusters 3 chugs along, the number of rumours swirling about the movie keeps rising. But the latest doesn't come from the usual sources - Dan Aykroyd or Harold Ramis - but from Sigourney Weaver.

Talking Avatar with Channel 4 News, Weaver chatted a little about her other projects, including the highly anticipated, but as yet still vaporware, threequel. "I’m afraid to say it Ghostbusters 3 is happening, I hope people are excited about that. I don’t know if I’m going to be in it, I have had a couple of calls asking ‘would you read the script’."

So she's read a script. And what has she gleaned? "I know that my little son Oscar – who was kidnapped from me – I think he has grown up to be a ghostbuster." Intriguing! Could be a decent idea. Go on…

"I might be in it; I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don’t think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it - he’s a ghost."

Peter Venkman as the new slimer? Hhhm… Not sure about that one. And would Murray agree? Maybe they'll need to get Woody Harrelson to ask him*.

Naturally, it's now exploded across the wild plains of the web, but right now all it is is a possibility. After all, many drafts could have been written since then and details on this sort of movie are always in flux...

*[Spoiler Alert] Worked for Zombieland, after all...

RE: RE:
Sorry to do this, but having thoughts of possibilities aint no good to me for anything else... Venkman Ghost...stony faced, looks just off camera, we hear his thoughts as he ponders his predicament, listing a lot of things he never did, slighlty pervy memories of when he was a horny teen (ie always) and the kiss off, he realises he can "go anywhere and look at anything...any...thing" during last sentence his stony face becomes Venkman grin... In a spin on 'Zool takes over Dana' More

RE:
Hopeful things of new film that won't happen but will anyway   - Venkman is estranged from Weaver's character - I forget the name - Oscar looks upon him as a dad and the only way they bond is through Ghostbusting, cue rights-of-passage, passing the torch storyline. NO SHIA!   OR   The station is bankrupt, cue college students-types starting where the old gang left off with showy new suits, CGI-itis slimer and measley cameos of the cast More

She was joking about Venkman. You could tell by the way she said it in the interview. Foolish Empire. More

RE:
Venkman as a ghost could work perfectly fine. Could be quite a moment when he is killed, doesn't realise, and then his comments as he does realise. Comedy as he is making his derogatory comments to other ghostbusters, them unable to hear him, but feeling 'It's almost like he's still here" and more retorts from Venkman to their comments. He wills himslef to be seen by the others...you get their reactions to seeing him...from beyond the grave, he continues to perve over Dana barrett...crucually, More

Quite happy with the 'next gen busters' getting a handover from the old dudes, but Venkman as a ghost?!? Come on, no way!! All we need is quality banter and plenty of busting, great set pieces like the Marshamallow man or the courtroom scene from number 2. What we don't need is something stupid, like Venkman as a damn ghost! More

Youthbusters!
Sounds a bit like Indy 4 to me with more 80s heroes passing the torch to a younger generation and we know that "Crystal Skull" sucked. I don't care about some 20 year old nobody busting ghosts, we all want the dream team from the first movies back. More

There were no spoliers there, and if you're worried about spoliers, surely 'Weaver Talks New Ghostbusters - What has she seen of the script?' might tell you that maybe there's going to be some details about plot. As it happens there weren't. More

Murray as a ghost would be quite funny as long as he's got something to moan about. More
