First Pictures Of Karate Kid Remake
Jaden Smith vs. Jackie Chan - fight!

01 December 2009  |  Written by Helen O'Hara  |  Source: Columbia Pictures

Can it ever hope to live up to the standards of the original? Can we even dream that The Karate Kid do-over will crane-kick us in the head the way that first film did? And can Jaden "son of Will" Smith fill Ralph Macchio's shoes? Well, here's a step to answering these important questions: the first official stills from the film.

Here we see Jaden as "Dre", the son of a single mother (Taraji P. Henson, we're guessing) who has to relocate to China when his mother's job forces her to move there. Lonely at first, he meets Mr Han (Jackie Chan) who teaches him karate and becomes an unlikely friend via the medium of waxing on and waxing off. Then, we're saying, he ends up crane-kicking the local bully into the middle of next week.

The Karate Kid is out here on July 16, 2010, so you've got plenty of time to practice catching flies with chopsticks between now and then.

Avildsen, you have no Pat Morita (R.I.P) and most importantly ... you don't have me; Daniel Larusso. And, as for Will Smith Jr. I'm gonna have to crane-kick-his-ass 'til he apologies for getting involved with that project in the first place. Bastards. All of them. Bastards, I tell you. More

jaden smith is a smug little cunt he wants killing before he gets to ruin any more films not that you could really ruin Karate Kid because it's bollox but it's eighties bollox so far more entertaining, I doubt the lens of nostalgia will cast it's hazey glow over this film in the future, more likely a mist of shit with raging flies all searching for Jaden so they can eat his face on mass. Wax on, wax off?
So, Jackie chan is in China (okay...), with a 5-year old black kid (okay...??). So, the kid is gonna have issues in kindergarten school, because other (actually chinese) kids steal his milk or something? And 'the-relocate-to-Asia'-storyline is getting rather boring (Fast & Furious 3 at least had cool cars). So, jackie chan is gonna learn him Kung Fu that enables him to really hurt other kindergarten kids? Or do we assume that all chinese kids know kung fu? And can you even imagine Jackie More

Whatever
If it is Karate why is Jackie Chan teaching him and why is he on The Great Wall of China? Isn't China the home of Kung Fu? The problem posting from the actual article comment section, you can't see all the people who have made the same comment before More

The Karate Kid is a classic!
You shouldn't redo a classic especially when it is relevent in any time zone and doesn't need modern day technology to bring it into the present. This is bad news! There is no need to redo this film for any reason other than to make the production company money off the back of the old movie. The Next Karate Kid was bad enough and now this one takes the formula and makes the kid about 5 years younger, hence making the fight scenes even less believable than they already were. And i dont care even More

RE: The day the Earth Stood Still..... Again!
I actually don't have a problem with this. The Karate Kid was fine when you were young in the 80's, but if you watch it now it is i]. More good remakes of shit films, it needs to be done. Besides, we don't really get enough mainstream martial arts films these days anyway. More

@kalel6000 - I thought it was. it's listed everywhere as The Kung Fu Kid. and will people bloody well back off and give the film a chance? I hate it when people decide a film will be rubbish before it's even made. Unless you all posses DeLoreans or TARDISs then you have o clue what it si going to be like. Yes. it might be crap. As might the next non-remake. it might also be brilliant. you don't know so stop making snap decisions. anyways, some of the best 'original' films have been remakes. More

The day the Earth Stood Still..... Again!
Same thing again and again and again, Hollywood keep thinking that a new generation is going to enjoy (just as much as the original) a new updated version of the classic, but they fail in understanding one thing. The parents of, or the generation that saw the classics show their kids etc and in turn this new generation love the classics and hate these new, updated, so called classic. So Hollywood here is a collective message from old, and new "Classic fans" LEAVE OUR CLASSIC FI More
