Kevin Williamson Talks Scream 4
Screenwriter on new trilogy

Kevin Williamson Talks Scream 4

A lot's happened to the landscape of horror films since the original Scream trilogy wrapped a decade ago. The lank-haired pasty-faced female ghouls of J-horror; the Saws and Hostels and their ilk; PG-13 teen-friendly fare; and of course the restarting and/or remaking of practically any horror franchise with lasting name-recognition, which we're sure Scream 4 will be po-mo enough to comment on.

Plenty of material for screenwriter Kevin Williamson then, who confirmed to the New York Post that those are the directions he's planning to take the script, whilst being very careful not to come off like National Lampoon: "Scary Movie spoofed these films, so one of the things I'm excited about with Scream 4 is that, while we do send up the genre, we make it incredibly scary. That's first and foremost."

We've known for a long time that Williamson would be back for the Scream re-launch (he wrote the first two, and sketched out the third, leaving the actual writing to Ehren Kruger due to TV commitments), along with Courtney Cox and David Arquette. Wes Craven is still in talks, and it was recently revealed that, contrary to initial reports, Neve Campbell would return as three-time Final Girl Sidney.

We wondered before whether this would be a pre-credits cameo in the style of Drew Barrymore's iconic Scream 1 apearance, and while it sounds as if it's a more significant role than that, Williamson still won't quite guarantee that she survives.

"There are a lot of twists and turns, so I can't promise anything," he says. "There are a lot of moving pieces, so we'll see, but if you're a Scream fan, I think you're really going to like it."

So what do you think? Could the franchise work without Sid? Would it still be Scream without her? And if she stays aboard the whole series, does she not run the risk of becoming the Jessica Fletcher of horror?

Hey Hollywood! I just had a great idea!! Why not remake Groundhog Day but exactly the same as the original! If it does really well at the box office bring out a second one exactly the same as the remake! If that does well at the box office bring out a third one exactly the same as the original, remake and second one.Ker-ching!!! ... Read More

Scream 1 & 2 were both class. 3 was a bit shite but it was a 3rd in a horror trilogy so what should ya expect. Ya can get more than 2 decent films out of a horror franchise as the like of Halloween H20 proved. Best twist wouold be to make Cambell the killer.all the abuse fromo the first films set her mental fuck up spot on. ... Read More

rubbish. leave it alone. number three was completely rubbish, scream two was bearable. should have left it with just the one. the first scream was easily on of the best movies of the nineties. stops ruining film legacies hollywood. think of something original. ... Read More

DANGEROSS! About me

That's a really good idea. If she's completly damaged by the previous film events she turns herself into the object of her fears. If the director and Williamson could pull that off that will be class. Turning Neve Campbell into something terrifying could be a challenge. Maybe if she's in a nut house like some kind of lady Lector doing nothing but watching J horror and plotting her spree. I think they'll have to present her as someone who's truly cracked and unpredictable cas I think it's true wh... Read More

RE: Why not
I think everyone would be expecting Sid to die. It's the most obvious choice and for that reason I don't think they'll kill her. Maybe she's been so disturbed by everything that's gone before that she's the one in the mask this time?! Another obvious 'twist' maybe. I'll just sit in anticipation and hope hope hope that they don't ruin everything. ... Read More

Why not
Apart from the first one the franchise weren't up to much anyway and it would be interesting to see how Williamson references recent horror trends. Not sure if it could stretch across a whole new trilogy but one film would be ok. And yeah get rid of Sid. Got that? Good. ... Read More
