Spidey 4 - Now With Extra Campbell? Sam promises Bruce more screentime Source: MTV
It's all rumour, speculation and musing at the moment, likely with a good element of teasing thrown in for good measure. But MTV have just grabbed an interview with Sam Raimi that possibly confirms longtime Raimi cohort Bruce Campbell's recent claims that he'll have a bigger role than previously in Spider-Man 4.
"I promised [Bruce] we would write something because I really love putting him in the pictures," says Raimi. "I promised him a good, meaty role."
Now, what seems likely to us is that this is mischief of the highest order, and we wouldn't be at all surprised if, when Spidey 4 finally rolls into theatres in 2011, it turns out that "meaty role" meant Campbell has a two-minute cameo as a butcher who insults Peter Parker and refuses to sell him some sausages.
That sort of character, following the wrestling promoter who insults Peter Parker, the theatre usher who insults Peter Parker, and the "French" waiter who insults Peter Parker (is it the same character every time, doing a different job?) seems to us to be rather more plausible than the suggestion from MTV (and elsewhere) that Campbell might be in line for the fishbowl-headed master of illusion Mysterio.
We'll keep an eye on this with interest. In the meantime, feel free to speculate below on Spidey roles that might suit the be-chinned one down to the ground. Would it be cool if Campbell's appearances turned out to have been Mysterio all along? Or would that be rubbish?
I can't believe that Brucey hasn't been considered for Kraven the hunter - Just think about it, following the storyline from Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 3 where Kraven has a big TV show where he hunts impossible prey. It'd be an awesome role for Bruce, he could camp it up bigstyle! ... Read More
There is a great danger of these films growing extremely repetitive, even if 4 is anywhere near as good as 2 it will still be Spiderman vs another villian in New York...again.
The tone needs to shift, Raimi needs to go serious, not dark...just ditching the stupid kiddie remarks of 3 and the overall cheesy atmosphere. The setting is also getting monotonous.
The natural progression would be to go the way of the Dark Knight and root Spiderman in reality, give Peter Parker a proper non-emo emotion... Read More
Well i think Sam Raimi has a second chance to make this movie as good as his first 2 films ..the 3rd was a bit of mess but i think he will make up for it in this one ...Bruce Campbell as Mysterio i think would be awesome i can imagine it happening to be honest an hope that it actually will do ..but i know whatever his part in the movie it'll be awesome as it was in all the other short but funny cameos ... The spiderman films are way too happy clappy. Tobey Macguire was a bad choice for Peter Parker. What the fuck was going on in Spidey 3 with his stupid Emo phase? Strutting down the street pointing at people, which was turning girls on!!?!?! Once you've started down the rocky road, there's no turning back. I know Raimi keeps saying the studios pushed too many villains into 3, which was true, but they'll only find another way of screwing up the next installment. Give it up Raimi, go back to horro.... AUNT MAY MUST DIE.]]
Am I the only one slightly suprised that people believe Campbell could pull off a bad-guy role? He's sarcastic, yes, but he couldn't do serious if it sat on his cock.

And less Aunt May (can she die in this one, please?)
concur - she is an annoyingly preachy to Parker.
But maybe death is a bit harsh...
s it me or does all of Aunt May's lines in the Spidey movies begin with "A man must..." ... Read More
