Michael Bay Will Direct Transformers 3
Paris holds its breath

Now, here's a clear winner of today's least surprising news story: Michael Bay will be back to direct Transformers 3, a third installment of giant robot carnage. Writing on Michaelbay.com, he also confirmed that the giant explosions will be happening in July 2011, not summer 2012 as originally thought.

Despite a critical panning, Transformers 2 took $832m worldwide, and sits second only to Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince ($927m) in global box office this year. Bay met this week with ILM, where presumably all leave is cancelled, and has been in talks with Hasbro about new characters. "Well, it's official: We have a great Transformers 3 story," Bay said. "Today is day one."

While Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are yet to confirm, co-writer Ehren Kruger is on board, and the two leads are expected to follow shortly. Judging by the intriguing postscript at the home of online Bayhem, rumours of a feud between Bay and Fox have been somewhat overstated.

Transformers 3's July 2011 release date puts it head-to-head with Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part II in a bajillionaire's club of summer blockbusters. Place your bets on the winner below.

RE:
Yeah that was a given, read that Bay's thinking about killing off Megan Fox's character too is she keeps running her mouth and comparing him to Hitler on the movie set. That certainly would make it more interesting for Shia's character Sam. More

Oh dear god
transformers was fun transformers 2 was shit transformers 3 will decimate any fond childhood memory I have of the cartoons Its pretty damn obvious that deathly hallows part 2 will be that summer winner of 2011. We'd of sat through 7 other films; many will want to see how it ends.. and lets be fair - the battle of hogwarts is going to be awesome. More

Ehren Of Judgement
Who the hell keeps hiring Ehren Kruger as a screenwriter (Scream 3, anyone?) He's one of the worst hacks in the business. You can be sure that "Transformers 3" will suck big time with him involved. More

We Need The Big Hitters! (But no more of that wizard wank!)
Harry Potter, has, and always will be shit. Summer blockbusters are an annual event no matter how shit they may or may not be. And out of the two I'd always rather watch the one with Megan Fox in. More

RE: Critical panning?!
L: Deviation I've seen the first, so I'm talking on that, I read a lot about the second, the rubbish plot, humour, it seemed far worse, what TR had in bad it had in quadruplete(new word) and all the good points of the first one gone. Plus, I don't like Bay's back catalouge (Bad Boys and The Rock aside) and going to watch this would have been useless, especially when most poeple said if you liked the first you'll like the second one (which some didn't even). We must slay Bay to make him pay for this dismay
Sounds like those crazy Mayan bastards were a bit out with their predictions, which is clearly going to annoy Roland Emmerich. The end of the world isn't going to be 2012, it's July 2011. Really going to have to get my act together if I'm ever going to bone Jessica Alba before this hurricane of shit wipes us all out for good. More

Not Quite Second Place...
Transformers 2 isn't actually the second highest grossing film of the year after Harry Potter 6, it's the third. Ice Age 3 has grossed $874m, some $40odd million more than Transformers 2, thanks to its ridiculously high $678m International gross (the third highest International gross EVER). I thank you. More

Bad Transformer Boys 3
Maybe Bay could just mix Bad Boys and Transformers together and make the most awesome threequel ever - I've got two scenes already; one where Optimus Prime changes from a truck to a robot and Will Smith goes 'Damn, I got to get me one of these!' and another where Ironhide takes a piss over Martin Lawrence and he goes 'This shit just got real!'. The rest just writes itself. More
