Elm Street Teaser Trailer Released

We've seen some stills and posters, but here's the first trailer for next year's "reimagining" of Wes Craven's A Nightmare On Elm Street, produced by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes, directed by Samuel Bayer, and starring Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy "One Two Coming For You" Krueger.

All the main beats from the original seem to have been fully recycled: the girls singing the skipping rhyme; the glove scraping the boiler-room pipes; the scene in the bath; the ceiling-crawling bedroom scene. There's even a scene at a pool party that looks very much like a setpiece from original sequel Freddy's Revenge. But it's probably unlikely that we'll see any of the teen Freddy fodder here going to an S&M club in their pyjamas and meeting their PE teacher. Which, we think you'll agree, is a missed opportunity.

Looks like there's also enough new stuff here to keep us interested though, including the impressive looking opening where a pre-burned-to-death Haley is chased into a warehouse by a PTA mob led by Clancy Brown, and the Freddy we know is born.

The film is released in the States next April. Is it just us, or does Freddy, in the full reveal at the end of this trailer, look a bit like Tom Waits?

RE: Elm Street Teaser Trailer Released
The main problem with this film for me at the moment (besides their treatment of raven) is the number of redos of iconic scenes from the original movie.  That's not generating much interest for me to go and see it, I could stay home and watch them.   The full trailer will probably determine whether I go and see this at the cinema or wait for a good dvd copy. ... Read More

RE: Elm Street Teaser Trailer Released
this is gonna be interesting. Jackie Earl Haley, Clancy Brown, Thomas Dekker are all good actors. And I like the look of the film from the trailer. Maybe in 7 months I'll have to eat my hat, glove and jumper, but for the time being, I'm very much looking forward to it! eah, but annoyingly that's only the actors and they all have to proove themselves. If they had a brilliant director and the script was better - that's what I wanna see. Haley in the biggest way needs to prove himself. I doubt ... Read More

L: princemadonna Plus, although a lot of us liked him darker, a lot of fans liked him comedic - look at all the ppl dressed up at him at comic con etc. I don't think they'll wanna dress up like a peadophile. sp; This is what I'm liking about the remake. They're taking Freddy back to being a fiend. I don't want him as a comedy figure. I'm amazed he ever became a comedy figure considering the crimes he's guilty of.   I think this is gonna be interesting. Jackie Earl Hale... Read More

RE: Elm Street Teaser Trailer Released
I didn't know Cronenberg was re-making The Fly? What on Earth is the point in that? Well, that sounds like another excuse for money. I'm not looking forward to the Hellraiser re-make either - seems Hollywood can't give us anything original. The last really good original horror I saw was 'Drag Me To Hell.' It's a shame Hollywood won't take a chance any more, but even more of a shame that so called heroes of the franchise are re-making their own classics just for money. If you look at Clive Ba... Read More

RE: Elm Street Teaser Trailer Released
The Hitcher was so poor. It was really a film of two halves for me tho.. I went with soem friends and four about an hour of it it had been trying but had been really piss poor horror crap.  Then it came to the car chase with Nine Inch Nails in the background and we all started corpsing, it was like they just stopped trying at that point and I enjoyed it a lot more.  Still completely piss poor tho.   I think the problem with remaking something thats become a franchise is you;r... Read More

RE: Elm Street Teaser Trailer Released
Well, I actually am looking forward to it. Loving Haley as the new Krueger, even though I've only seen the trailer. Didn't have a problem with his voice, he sounded Cajun to me which is suitably weird. The only remake I'm looking forward too. And Clash of the Titans. And A Christmas Carol. ... Read More

RE: Elm Street Teaser Trailer Released
I actually quite like the original Friday the 13th, cheesy as hell, but the effects were amazing for there time and I loved Mrs Voorhees LOL. Didn't like PD's version cos I felt it was just blood and fake tits, I thought that Derek Meyers was good in the role, but he's a really nice guy and he cared about it a lot as well. I see what you mean though, it's completley different to NOES and I think a lot of F13th fans liked it. Other than that I completley agree with everything you've said. I... Read More

RE: Elm Street Teaser Trailer Released
I actually thought their remake of Friday the 13th was grand.    Every single entry in that franchise has been dire, and I include the original in that, so condensing all the best bis from basically the first three movies into one neat 90 minute package satisfied the nut in me that just went in expecting blood and tits and really unsympathetic characters.    I dislike the notion I get from that Elm Street trailer however that it looks like theyve done a similar hac... Read More

RE: Elm Street Teaser Trailer Released
Well, I can't reserve judgement, I'm sure you know from their previous re-makes (apart from TCM - which I thought was decent) that they seem inept at making a good movie, I'm not going to help their movie succeed by taking a big chance considering their rep & going to see it. Friday the 13th 09 was dire, one of the worst horrors ever I feel. I see what you mean about the little girl at the funeral (BTW - the blonde girl throughout the trailer is Katie Cassidy who is playing Kris - the charact... Read More

L: princemadonna Okay... here we go again say for arguments sake that he is a child molester, I don't feel it was portrayed in the ORIGINAL movie - 'nuff said. Olaf - I've spoken to ppl on other forums who have felt that these forums get extremley aggressive - of course, opions do get aggressive when people are discussing films they are passionate about so that's easily explained as well. Todge could you please stop insulting me "like some pre-pubescent" - why do you feel the need to ta... Read More
