Jessica Biel Joins The A-Team
And Sharlto Copley is Murdoch

16 September 2009  |  Written by Helen O'Hara  |  Source: Variety

submit to reddit

It's taken years to get to this point, but it looks like we finally have a full line-up for The A-Team. Joining Liam Neeson's Hannibal, Bradley Cooper's Face and "Rampage" Jackson's BA Baracus will be the previously rumoured Sharlto Copley (he of District 9 fame) and the very lovely Jessica Biel.

As was practically obligatory in the show, the female role will be an ex-girlfriend of Templeton "Faceman" Peck's. What's less traditional is that Variety also appears to say that Biel's role doubles up as the general who's pursuing the team (who were, of course, convicted of a crime they didn't commit) which seems slightly unlikely to us. A colonel, maybe, but surely she's considerably too young to be a general if this is a more serious take on the series? Still, in an industry that once cast Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist (in hotpants!) perhaps we should just be grateful that Biel is actually pretty kick-ass.

Skip Woods wrote the script and Joe Carnahan is directing for producer Ridley Scott. Shooting starts this autumn for release here on July 30, 2010.

What a miserable lot!
The A Team was never a great show, it passed the time away when I was kid but bloody hell guys, stop being so bloody pessimistic, every actor commited to this so far is better then the originals ( ok mr peck was a great actor but he did take the piss as Hannibal) In an age of truely horrible remakes, lets give this a try! I hate it when a plan doesn't come together!
What's the point in remaking shows from the 70's and 80's? It's terribly done 9 times out of ten, and those who make them have a huge conundrum to face, do you make it gritty and modern to appeal to a new audience at the risk of seriously pissing off the fans who idolise the characters, or do you make it camp and cheesey pissing off everybody? And Liam Neeson as Hannibal?! More

I agree with Ninob. remakes of 80s television shows are doomed anyway but by casting the no-talented Biel, it just put the final nail in the coffin. More

RE: Wikus, man!
L: deanlaccohee Great casting for Murdoch - Copley was superb in District 9. I agree with dravis747 about Ving Rhames as BA - Clooney orbson for Hannibalad Pitt for Face. As for Jessica Biel, I'd happily sit and watch her reading out the phone book... f that happened he'd insist they write it that they were all imprisoned by the Jews More

I really can't see this being anything but atrocious. I know Joe Carnahan is a pretty good director but I just can't see it working. I'm normally fairly optimistic but I'm really expecting this to awful. More

BIEL as a GENERAL?! Someone's got their wires crossed...
...because she's a little young for a General in the US Army, granted there are female Generals in the military but I really can't believe that anyone of Biels age (male or female) would be elevated to that position. Far more likely that as Empire says she's a civilian who gets caught up with the A-Team/love interest for Face or possibly a military investigator on their trail. Either that or Carnahan is going for a spoof approach where Biel is a General and will be wearing a stripper version o More

L: David Somerset I've gone from "disinterested" to "curiosity piqued" on the /i]ometer. Jessica Biel is a most welcome addition, especially if she brings along her bottom, and Copley is a very interesting, if slightly bandwagon-jumping, zeitgeist-chasing choice. it turns out like 's Angelst mind because I'm the guy that likes that film. *closes closet door behind him*ote]   Oi,....there's only room enough for one in this closet - get out! I can feel the tears of disappointment already forming...My only hope is that they don't turn this into the kind of tosh that Starsky & Hutch and Miami Vice were!! Can we expect cameos from the surviving cast members?! Here's hoping...I'm off to watch my boxset DVDs! More

A-Team's Arrested Development
The casting of an A-Team movie has been a subject of pub debate for years. While the options for most of the characters seem many, the sticking point has always been Hannibal. Let's face it, he has to be cool, and while I like Neeson, I don't reckon he's that cool. If I had to pick the cast, I'd go for Ving Rhames as B.A., Jason Bateman as Face, Will Arnett (also of Arrested Development fame and potential comedy gold) as Murdoch and Hannibal? Well Clooney could play him is his sleep. More

RE: A-Team
L: Timon L: Tech_Noir I still don't think this will work, what made The A-Team work was the cast chemistry - you can't recast, set in modern day and think it'll have the same magic, h please. It's the A-Team for God's sake, it's not like it had any real depth. Besides, George Peppard hardly got on with any of the cast, any chemistry that was there was purely artifical. The A-Team is exactly the kind of thing you can remake, recast and still have fun with. If only J.T Walsh was More

Considering how awful the series was - even as a piece of lightweight teatime entertainment - , a serious version is the only way to go. More Three Kings than The A Team I hope. More

Sharlto Copley
Seems like a good fit for the role of Murdoch to me. He was my favourite character and I reckon he'll probably be the most interesting part because he's mad. I certainly imagine Copley bringing more to the part than some Jim Carey type being over the top all the time. I think the idea of Face's ex girlfriend being the general that is after them is a really horrible idea. If they have to have a personal connection it surely makes more sense that it would be a rival of Hannibals than anyone els More

To Biel Or Not To Biel
As soon as I heard Biel's name mentioned, I figured she'd be taking the part of Amy, who was a friend of the A-Team. As long as there are some gratuitous bikini shots of Jessica's killer bod, I'll be happy. For God's sake, don't stick her in an army uniform for the whole movie! More
