Michael Douglas Talks Wall Street 2 Exclusive: Gordon Gekko fills us in
Michael Douglas is starting shooting today on Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps for director Oliver Stone, but we managed to grab a few minutes with him over the weekend and got the lowdown on what Gordon Gekko has been up to in the years between films.
"It’s 22 years later," Douglas explains. "Gordon has done about eight years in jail and got out in about 2001. The picture predominantly focuses on these last couple of years on Wall Street, which nobody anticipated. We shot the first one in 1986 and it was a wild, wild colourful time. And here we have both a train crash and a larger-than-life period leading up to that train crash. It’s an exciting time to make a picture about Wall Street."
"Is this a softer Gekko? Eh, I can’t say that. I think he’s got some amends to make. (Laughs) We’ll see what he’s up to."
"We’ve got Josh Brolin playing what I guess is the villain of the piece. There’s a little bit of Terence Stamp, from the first one, in there. Allan Loeb wrote a good script and when Oliver signed on he put his fingerprints all over it. I think it’ll be a relevant movie. It’s all to do with the execution, I guess."
Wall Street 2 also stars Shia LaBeouf, our very own Carey Mulligan as Gekko's daughter, Susan Sarandon, and Frank Langella, and it's out here on April 23 2010.
I loved Douglas' portrayal of Gordon Gekko and Shia LaBeouf can match Douglas with the verbal sparring very well too. This just sounds good, however the title is a bit cheesy. ... Read More
Im really looking forward to this, especially as I work in the financial industry, so i'll have a better understanding of everything now, unlike when I first watched Wall Street. Its about time Micky D got a decent film to work on too, last good thing he done was Traffic and that was a while back. ... Read More
Quite looking forward to this.
Be great if Stone would do his quasi-sequel to Salvador. I think he mentioned in the Salvador commentary that he'd like to have done more films following Richard Boyle on his zany adventures. ... Read More
Will he keep his slimeball hairstyle?
Seriously, I can't help but be very excited indeed by the movie, though Stone's recent output naturally makes me fear he might mess it up and thus destroy the monumental original's legacy. ... Read More
