Bryan Singer May Remake Excalibur
But first comes... Jack The Giant Killer
Source: Variety

Bryan Singer May Remake Excalibur

Hello, and welcome to another exciting round of ‘What Will Bryan Singer Direct Next?’

Will it be:

a) the Battlestar Galactica reboot that was announced last week, or
b) X-Men: First Class, the ‘young mutants’ X-Men spin-off written by Hosh Schwartz, which Singer, the original X-director, has been mulling over, or
c) The remake of Excalibur, John Boorman’s classic adaptation of the King Arthur legend, which was announced today, or
d) None of the above?

Well, frankly, it looks like d) at the moment.

Although Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures today concluded months of negotiations with Boorman to purchase the rights for Excalibur, that low-down and dirty fantasy epic that featured the likes of Nicol Williamson, Helen Mirren, Liam Neeson and Patrick Stewart, with a view to Singer directing, it appears that, with no writer on board, Excalibur won’t become Singer’s first movie since Valkyrie.

In fact, it seems that the 43 year-old director is merely stockpiling projects so he can move on quickly after his actual next movie. And that movie seems likely to be…

Jack The Giant Killer, a new take on the classic fairy-tale, Jack And The Beanstalk, in which a young farmer ventures into a land ruled by giants, in the hope of rescuing a beautiful princess.

It seems more light-hearted than anything Singer has done before, but that may not be a bad thing. Darren Lemke and Mark Bomback wrote the script for the New Line-Legendary movie, while Neal Moritz will produce.

Of course, Singer hasn’t yet confirmed that Jack The Giant Killer will be his next project, but it certainly seems ready to go, and we’d rather see him do something new, rather than potentially sully his X-legacy by directing First Class. If you had your choice, readers, what would you have Singer do?

RE: Empire please...
hink this is good news for you but last year WB announced that they were not happy with Returns and would be rebooting the series.  i believe that it is safe to assume that both director and star would not be present in a series reboot.  here is the article: www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=48159/left]thi nk that they mentioned it again at comic con this year but i couldn't find any referrence to it.  sorry bud. ... Read More

No thanks
Not sure that I really care what Singer does. After abandoning X-Men to direct the MAJOR let-down that was Superman Returns, then taking forever to churn out the very much so-so Valkyrie, I have lost a lot of faith in him. We certainly don't need a Galactica movie so soon after the recent series reboot - and how could it do that series justice anyway? One 2 hour movie cannot hold a candle to the 5 series par excellence that went before it. ... Read More

Do Arthur but properly (so not Excalibur)
1st off why re-do galactica so close to the end of the excellent modern version, the old 70's version was fun and cheesy but nothing compared to the new. X-men 1st class could be good if its not a back story but deals with some of the new young x-men after the events of the average X3,though I would rather they did something like X-force, X-factor with a whole new cast, no jackman or Berry. Never seen the big deal with Excalibur yeah it looks nice but the acting is only ok and I prefer a mo... Read More

No...
First off, why remake a movie based on a group of legends, rather than make their own version of the stories? That saves the money for purchasing the rights, etc? I don't get it, Mr. Singer. "The Matter of Britain" is the greatest group of legends of all time. They are ripe for good, juicy interpretations on film. "Excalibur" is the best, and I really like it a lot (it's on my Top 20). I have no complaints. ... Read More
