First G.I. Joe, Now A Lego Movie?
Warner Bros. says so anyway

First G.I. Joe, Now A Lego Movie?

Um, OK. Warner Bros is well into development on a planned Lego movie, a family comedy with a mixture of live action and animation that will, we're guessing, involve both real people and short, squarish people with bumps on their heads.

The plot remains under wraps, but we're guessing this have more in common with the ace Lego computer games already out there, involving litttle people running about on adventures, and less to do with some dude building a scale replica of Tower Bridge in his garage.

Various producers have tried to make a Lego movie for years, but the Danish company has apparently gone for this one since it embraces their core values of  "a fun factor, creativity and that imagination has no boundaries" - and it doesn't hurt that the company's worked with Warners before on tie-in lines for Batman, Harry Potter and more.

Sherlock Holmes' Dan Lin is producing, with Kevin and Dan Hageman writing the script. The Hagemans previously adapted The Lives of Locke Lamora for Warners (an ace book, so keep an eye out for that ever moving forward) and Hotel Transylvania for Sony, so even though we haven't seen any of their work yet, we're hopeful that they know what they're doing.

One thing is sure: you need to rescue that bucket of bricks from behind the sofa, empty it out and see if you can read, tealeaf-like, any clues to the plot of this one in the pattern which emerges.

A Danish moviesite have talked to a CEO at Lego. He confirms the movie that will be classic Lego and not a Bionicle movie. It will also take place in parrallel worlds. One live action and one completely CGI. And says the worlds with stay apart and not interact in a Roger Rabbit-kind of way. http://www.kino.dk/Nyheder/2009/08/Lego-bliver- til-spillefilm.aspx ... Read More

To be fair with GI Joe and Transformers there were cartoons and comics to derive a plot from (so at least there was a half-arsed mythology to sell toys off), but Lego? maybe the Lego realm clashes with our own, and is directed by Michel Gondry with a script by Charlie Kaufman. I'd watch that. The term 'spotless mind' does seem fairly relevant to the people who suggested this in the first place. Let's be honest, this will either be the single greatest thing ever- for all the wrong reasons- or so ... Read More
