Gizmo to return in remake?

Exclusive: Joe Dante On Gremlins 3

Shut your curtains now. Rumours of a Gremlins 3 have been doing the rounds since they finished cleaning up splattered mogwai off the set of part 2, but the plot just thickened slightly with Joe Dante suggesting that a third, CGI-ied instalment may finally be in works.

"I hear they're going to make another one soon," the Gremlins director told us. "I can see why - it would be stupid to let that title go to waste." Just don't expect a straight sequel. "The actors from the first two are too old to do a proper sequel, so I'm sure when the new one arrives it will be a remake of the original."

If this sounds like hearsay from Dante, who'd be surprised to find another classic added to the '80s remake frenzy gripping Hollywood?

Whatever the outcome, Gremlins creator Chris Columbus won't be on board. "I haven't heard about it," Columbus told Empire. "If they do the monsters with CGI, I don't know if it would be the same. They should go back and do it with puppets again, though at this point I wouldn't be interested in being involved."

So what are you thoughts? Is it time for another visit to Mr. Wing's Chinese emporium or should Gizmo and co. be consigned to the dusty shoebox of movie nostalgia?

Gremlins 3
They should definitely make a new Gremlins movie, but they need to scrap the child humor, and PG gore. They should take it to a true horror level. Make it dark and scary as hell and on a massive scale without goofy googly eyed dumbass gremlins and talking ones. Keep the atmosphere creepy much like the original did. 'Do you hear what I hear'. Nuff said. ... Read More

RE: Gremlins CGI
Reading the Gollum comment above, a new Gremlins movie would be a dream come true if it were directed by Peter Jackson.  If he could give it the attention to detail that he gave to LOTR and Kong (on a much smaller scale of course) paired with his Braindead-era sense of cartoon humour (which is what Gremlins made so great in the first place anyway), then this could be brilliant... And with Weta handling the Gremlins, then at least you'll know you wouldn't need to worry about the CGI vs pu... Read More

RE: Gremlins CGI
L: tftrman L: hughjass L: Tech_Noir What's all this hatred towards CGI. "We want puppets! We want puppets!" Get with the times! There is no way Gremlins 3 will have puppets, The important thing is an excellent script, excellent effects (regardless of it being CG) and dark witty humour (preferably not watered down for a lower rating). Dante's probably right away Zack and Phoebe being too old and I cringe at the thought of it being about their kids and them having cameo... Read More

RE: Gremlins CGI
Puppets with CGI enchancements....if you must. Those puppets are still amazing and I think the actors would lose something if they didn't have a physical puppet. Just becase you CAN use CGI doesn't mean you have to. Look at Where The Wild Things Are to see a good mix of the two. ... Read More
