Rinko Kikuchi Is An Assault Girl
First live action in 8 years for helmer

23 July 2009  |  Written by Emily Phillips  |  Source: Variety

He may have been all quiet on the live action front for eight years, but Anime King Mamoru Oshii is plotting his return to the human world with his brand new apocalyptic epic Assault Girls, starring Oscar-nominated Rinko Kikuchi.

Babel star Kikuchi's fellow Assault Girls will be played by Vexille's Meisa Kuroki and Hinako Saeki. The girls will be desert hunters looking for morphing sand whale beasts amid post-apocalyptic turmoil. So think Tremors-cum-Dune, Japanese style.

Oshii, who is most famous for his anime classic Ghost In The Shell films, most recently released a live action movie in 2001 with sci-fi fantasy Avalon.

Assault Girls is due in cinemas on December 19.
