Mel Gibson Up For Jodie Foster's Beaver
Dark comedy about man and his puppet

10 July 2009  |  Written by Chris Hewitt  |  Source: Variety

Given the regression to our sniggering schoolboy days that we suffered last week when we wrote a Spider-Man musical story that featured Alan Cumming and Evan Rachel Wood, we have no idea how we’re going to get through the following story without being sent to see the headmaster. But here goes – professional face on. Mel Gibson has agreed to star in a motion picture called The Beaver, which will be directed by the Oscar-winning actress, Jodie Foster.

The motion picture called The Beaver is about a man who can only relate to others via a beaver puppet that’s perpetually attached to his hand. Mr. Gibson will play the depressed man. Ms. Foster, who co-starred alongside Mr. Gibson in the rollicking 1994 Western, Maverick, will co-star as the man’s wife.

Kyle Killen’s script for the black comedy topped last year’s Blacklist, the annual round-up of the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood, and for a long while had Steve Carell attached to star.

But the presence of Mr. Gibson and Ms. Foster, for whom this will be her third movie behind the camera, has brought the low-budget indie closer to fruition and, although financing isn’t entirely in place yet, filming may start in September in New York.

We wish them well, for this sounds like a very intriguing movie, which should suit Mr. Gibson’s talent for dark comedy down to the ground. Even though it’s a long way away, we can’t wait for the grand opening of Jodie Foster’s Beaver.

And that’s it. Professional face off. Made it through with no rude gags or coarse innuendo! Yes!

RE: Mel Gibson Up For Jodie Foster's Beaver
What's the point of going to a movie about a man with a puppet you ask? It's Mel Gibson, sure he's been a bit weird for some but it's still Mad Max, Martin Riggs, William Wallace etc. etc.. Oh and case you have forgotten Mel's pretty damn funny. More

I'd thought this would strewn with jokes.
I mean pussy jokes, lesbian jokes, drunk, anti-semetic jokes, No 'Oh Jody's not jewish then otherwise Mel bashing at it for ages?' 'I can't wait to see this get award recognition, especially Best Actor category, so I can hear 'Mel Gibsonj in Jodie Foster's Beaver...sorry I mean The Beaver' etc. On that note I guarantee that this film wilm will dominte The Razzies - whether it's crap, or actually really good (and given the talent involved, it will be) just for the bad jokes and puns they can do More

Well he's not going to be IN Jodie Foster's Beaver...
...only lucky ladies can do that, with 'certain' equipment. On a relative point, I was upset that Kate Humble's Badger Watch on BBC2 turned out to be just a nature programme. Shame More
