It's been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years, which is not usually a good sign, but the disease / paranoia / horror / thriller Carriers actually looks rather good, based on this new trailer.
The premise is all laid out pretty thoroughly in the trailer, which sees four friends, including Star Trek's Chris Pine and, er, Coyote Ugly's Piper Perabo, on the run to safety after an apocalyptic plague sweeps the world. With clearly laid-out rules for survival, the quartet think they've got things figured out - until it becomes clear that their methods are not infallible, and that the danger may be worse than they thought.
A cynic might think that this was shelved until the release of Star Trek made Pine a star, but in any case we're encouraged by this new trailer (we missed an earlier, similar one that came out on a busier news day). It's got a September 4 release date in the US: barring the swine flu epidemic destroying civilisation, hopefully we'll see it here after that.

It doesn't look like anything original or groundbreaking but it does look like a good Friday night out film. Far from cashing in on Star Trek, it could just as easily cash in on the swine flu pandemic. ... Read More
