American Werewolf Remake Confirmed We were angry, but we're alright noooow! Source: Variety
After yesterday’s fan-inciting reports that Dimension Films had snapped up the remake rights to one of the last, truly great, untouched horror movies, An American Werewolf In London, today not only brings confirmation, but further details.
Yes, Dimension is behind the new version, the announcement of which caused such a shockwave of horror geek outrage that it apparently caused David Schofield to miss the board at a darts tournament. And he’s never missed that board before.
It’s very early, writer/director-less days yet, but the new movie will be produced by the Furst brothers, Sean and Bryan, who most recently produced the long-delayed vampire movie, Daybreakers. Confidence-inspiring, we’re sure you’ll agree.
But we’ve been here before, waving our pitchforks and flaming torches at the mere idea of a remake, only for that remake to turn out to be pretty damned decent.
OK, that was one time, with Zack Snyder’s Dawn Of The Dead, but there’s no reason why the new American Werewolf can’t be a success as long as the Fursts choose a good director, eschew crappy CG in favour of the sinew-snapping, ultra-realistic prosthetics that made the first so memorable, and – this is most important – stay on the roads and keep clear of the moors. If they do that, they’ve got a chance.
Oh, and need we mention that it would work best if the werewolf were American, and that it ran amok in London at some point? No? Good.
The only thing I have to say to this is; NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... Please NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! One of the greatest horror movies EVER! getting a remake?!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Saying that tho, I said the same thing about Texs CSM but I enjoyed that, Marcus Nispel did a fine job! (Shame about Friday 13th...) ... Read More
And are we ready for all the lovely brit Stereotypes that this film will probably entertain.
Agutter's character will - I'm betting - be played by an unconvincing kiera Knightley playing a nurse, where she doesn't live in an uptown flat but a mansion where red telephone booths are STILL in use around london city. Whereby the most famous FX scene ever made will be completely FUBARed with a huge dollop of CGI! ... Read More

It’s really only a matter of time before remakes start turning up before their original counterparts. They could be called ‘retro-makes’, and people could get all their anger and bile out of the way before they’re then ‘originalised’, and everybody will be happy that the retro-director’s vision has been unsullied and the spirit of the first film yanked harshly out of a stinky cesspit to be polished off as a shiny, new, original work of art.
I bang on about this in my blog, The Incredible S... Read More
Remaking and re-releasing some old jap horror movies and some material from the fifties/ sixties/ seventies ect makes perfect sense. But this is just the latest in a line of Hollywood remake outrage. What the fuck is wrong with the original? It's classic and near perfect as it is. Plus, it's not that old to start with. Same applies to Total Recall, Halloween, A Nightmare On Elm Street ect. Just leave the fuckin classics alone please, there's nothing wrong with them, we love them just the way the... Read More
