Charles Gibson To Direct The Goblin
Family comedy marks FX artist's debut

22 June 2009  |  Written by Chris Hewitt

Oscar-winning visual effects artist is taking a break from playing Stick Cricket while waiting years for a one-second shot to render, by making the leap to feature directing with The Goblin.

But, despite the title, this is no Stan Winston-esque Pumpkinhead-style descent into horror for Gibson, who bagged Oscars for his work on Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl and Babe.

Instead, The Goblin is a comedy about a family who move into an old house, only to find that the current resident – a curmudgeonly goblin – doesn’t want them there. So he mounts a campaign to drive them out.

Sounds a bit been there, done that to us, and without a major studio on board (Wind Dancer Film is behind the movie), it may even wind up going straight to DVD. But much depends on Gibson, who should be able to oversee the creation of a memorable movie goblin without breaking a sweat. And let’s hope that he’s more David Fincher than Eragon’s Stefan Fangmeier in the FX guy-turned-director stakes.

Geoff Rodkey wrote the script for the movie – and, since he also wrote Daddy Day Care and RV, you know it’s going to be good.

RE:
I don't understand why it shouldn't be news, it's a piece about a film heading into production, thus translates as er.... movie news, hence it's place in said thread. More
