Shyamalan Unbreakable Again

M. Night Shyamalan, the twisty turny Sixth Sense director, somewhat down on his luck following Lady in the Water and The Happening (although The Last Airbender looks promising), is prepping Unbreakable 2, according to MTV News.

Shyamalan has been saying things like this since 2001. He doesn't have Bruce Willis or Samuel L. Jackson yet ("I don't know where [they] are... Sam is, like, Mr Comic Book now..."), and as of last October (MTV again) he hadn't written it yet and didn't quite have an idea: "I want a story to pop into my head". He also seriously fell out with Unbreakable's studio Disney after they rejected Lady in the Water.

But if he's still talking it up, it's still something of a possibility, and a weirdo take on superheroes might sit quite well in the current Marvel-heavy movie climate. But is there anything left to say after Watchmen?

The Film Watchmen wished it was...
Watchmen didn't say anything. I wish the world would wake up and realise that it was massively ambitious failure. The whole changed ending didn't work - the violence was glorified and the philosophy fudged. And the acting was half great, half shit. Unbreakable was a truly original take on the super-hero genre, and I think a sequel will still have a lot to say on Man's relationship with his own mythology and heroes. Plus, if Shyamalan forgets the twists and turns, and just does a good story (a l... Read More

Unbreakable 2 is possible!?
I've never watched Unbreakable part 1 before. When I saw the trailer, it looked good. Hope M. Night will have a great idea for the sequel. When he finish the script, go straight to the movie studios like Paramount, DreamWorks, 20th Century Fox, Universal or whatever he wants! So..who will be the producer that is not himself? Stephen King, Wes Craven, Michael Bay..You choose M.Night! ... Read More

RE: Shyamalan Unbreakable Again
L: Tech_Noir L: smass101 PS - Th'appening was one of the worst films i've ever seen, after the creepy opening i thought someone was actually taking the piss the acting was that bad.... he opening was great, so was some of the early deaths (the gun passed along, the mother talking to her daughter over the phone). It had potential but Shyamalan clearly rushed it. Last Airbender will show once and for all if he's lost it completely. One bad film is unfortunate, two in a ro... Read More

RE: Shyamalan Unbreakable Again
As soon as Unbreakable finished i wanted more, it felt like a brilliant and fresh take on the whole camp/dayglo superhero thing 10 years ago.... ....Unfortunately i dont think it would work as well nowadays, the whole "gritty, realistic, real world" superhero scenario has been hammered in Heroes, Watchmen, even Daredevil back in 03. It's just not a "knock your socks off" orginal concept now like it was back then, and for that reason i think M. should just leave it. PS - Th'app... Read More

RE: Shyamalan Unbreakable Again
I ,for one, am looking forward to this one. A sequel is a Shyamalan first and his stories are always original. Not always successful at the boxoffice or sophisticated enough for all viewers. But come on, at least the man tries to be original and come up with his own stories instead of one more needless remake. What are we to look forward to these days ? Transformers 2 ? (based on stupid toys from my childhood and a stupid story first movie), or maybe Terminator Salvation (please just give... Read More
