Neeson And Cooper Are The A-Team
Well, half of them anyway...

09 June 2009  |  Written by Chris Hewitt

submit to reddit

We love it when the plan to put The A-Team on the big screen comes together – and it's coming together quite nicely, as a matter of fact, with the news that Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper are in talks to star in the Joe Carnahan-directed adaptation of the ‘80s TV show about four resourceful Army vets on the run for a crime they didn’t commit.

As has been rumoured for a while, Cooper – who became a star this weekend with the success of The Hangover – will play Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck, the group’s ladies’ man, and the role originated by Dirk Benedict.

But it’s Neeson’s involvement, as the A-Team’s leader, Col. John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, that’s got us all kinds of excited. The role, originally played by George Peppard of course, has been linked with all manner of A-listers over the years, including George Clooney and Mel Gibson, but Neeson is spot-on.

As Taken showed, he can still kick ass and take names, even at the age of 57, and he should bring gravitas to the project. Given that Carnahan is apparently keen to excise any camp, jokey aspects from the movie, Neeson’s presence is a step in the right direction. He’s Qui-Gon effin’ Jinn, for God’s sake…

There’s no word yet on who Carnahan will cast as the two remaining members of The A-Team, the African-American tough guy B.A Baracus (first played by some guy named Mr. T) and the batshit insane pilot, ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock (the legendary Dwight Schultz), but with production set to begin in August in Vancouver, we’d imagine that we’ll hear some news sooner rather than later.

Fox is stumping up the cash for this one, which is also produced, oddly enough, by Tony and Ridley Scott. The movie’s set for release on June 11, 2010.

The is The A Team
Mel Gibson - Hannibal, NOBODY ELSE - Think of Maverick, Lethal Weapon, Brave Heart. Aaron Eckhart - Face, Two Face from The Dark Knight, he brings style and depth to a brilliant role. Ice Cube - B.A. If he bulks up and focuses on the job he could do a geat job. Jim Carey - Howling Mad, If he tones his behaviour down a bit and gives the role what's needed he would be amazing. Decker - I;m not sure yet but he needs to be chosen correctly or it's all down hill More

Bradley Cooper, for face? you've got to be kidding me, he's not even good looking! Josh Duhamel would be perfect, I like Liam Neeson but for Hannibal? What happened to Bruce Willis? This doesn't sound too promising. More

The plan is coming together...
Liking the approach this film seems to be taking! Neeson as Hannibal, Cooper as Face - nice, nice! BA is always gonna be tough - I hope they move away from just a Mr T. impressionist on that one. But as for Murdock, why can't they just bring back Dwight "The Schultz" Schultz back??? Just a thought... And regarding Decker - shouldn't they have Lynch pursuing them first? Decker comes in for the (inevitable) sequel, with Bull Fulbright chasing them in the third film? Just a thought... More

Neeson would ,instead of Hannibal, make a good col decker. I think that Brad Pitt (provided he dropped his fee a bit and turned in a "twelve monkeys" type performance) could pull off the role of Murdoch More

So we like Taken now?
Somebody touched on this before but I feel the need to really tear into it a bit. So Empire likes Taken now? I have to say the review that was posted on this very site for that film was one of the worst I've ever seen on here. Basically they didn't bother to rate the film on its own merits just wrote it off as American xenophobia, despite the fact that there were more foreigners involved than Americans. More

Barracas and Murdock
I fully expect some lazy studio exec to cast Jack Black as Murdock, whcih would suck as Jack Black has all the range of a water pistol. I'd like to see what someone like John Cusack would do with it, but I doubt he'd go for it. Jim Carrey would be fun with that part. But my first choice would be Will Ferrell. Yeah, I went there. As for BA, I can't believe nobody has suggested Ving Rhames! He is badass enough to absolutely nail that character! More

I'm not totally against an A-Team movie, i mean the qoute at the beginning of every episode is movie material full stop! but i just cant see anybody else playing these characters, ok George Clooney could pull of Hannibal and Jim Carrey for Murdock but its just to cliche! and as for BA nobody can fill his shoes! its not just "lets get a token big black guy to wear lots of jewellry" they need the personality of Mr T, his actions, his voice, his frown! i mean come on!! Uh..not spot on
I've got a lot of time for Neeson. Agreed that his accent skills are on a par with Sean Connery, but he's a fine actor and a bit of a legend. However, he's about as suited for Hannibal as Dame Judy Dench, and I really can't see the argument otherwise. If you want grit, gravitas and pathos, then Neesons your man, but what have any of those things got to do with an A-Team movie? It's tongue in cheek, lightweight action fun. It doesn't have dark and serious orgins to be rediscovered admist the TV c More

Liam Neeson is certainly the man for the job. Just remember: Taken, Phantom Menace, Batman Begins, enough said. As for Murdoch, I like the ideas so far of either Sam Rockwell or Jim Carrey. Both funny in their own right, but somehow I feel Sam Rockwell could be the one to play Murdoch. Underwhelmed.....
Am i the only one who thinks Liam Neeson is - to put it kindly - not a very good actor? He can't do accents, he can't do stunts (the fight scenes in Taken looked about as good as the ones from Austin Powers), and he looks a bit weird if you ask me! I'm sorry to jump on the bandwagon, but the role of Hannibal had George Clooney's name slapped all over it! It's the most obvious piece of casting since Patrick Stuart played Proff X or Julia Roberts played a person who looks li More

I like Cooper for this and while I really can't complain about Neeson lets all be honest and admit Clooney is looking more an more like Peppard by the day. That being said if the goal is to get grittier Neeson is an excellent choice. Jobin is also right Carey would be perfect for Murdoch and I think the rumors linking Common with the B.A. role are spot on. More
