Mega-Shark Vs Giant Octopus Trailer
Funnest, dumbest film of the year?
Source: YouTube

Mega-Shark Vs Giant Octopus Trailer

OK, this is a straight-to-video film and yes, it looks - by any conventional standard - completely dreadful. But Mega-Shark Vs Giant Octopus also looks so utterly bonkers that it might just prove hilarious, in the same way that Empire forum favourite Shark Attack 3 is dreadful but entertaining.

The plot sees a gigantic shark and equally ma-hoooo-sive octopus frozen for 10 million years while locked in mortal combat, only to be reawoken in our time and cause havoc with modern shipping and indeed air travel up and down the coast of California.

The film stars Debbie Deborah Gibson and Lorenzo Lamas, and is written and directed by Jack Perez. It all comes from The Asylum, the same studio that brought us I Am Omega and Street Racer. So you know it's good. And hey, any film where a gigantic shark jumps 35,000 feet in the air has got to be worth watching - right?

Helen O'Hara

It is rather wonderful
This is one of my top films of the year. Utterly ridiculous, appallingly scripted, cringe-worthy "special" effects but a shark that, as ms o'hara pointed out, not only jumps 35,000 ft into the air but also travels at 400 knots (!) and an octopus that we don't ever really see (methinks the "CG" was too expensive) is surely enough for anyone. Don't judge it as you would a normal film, just enjoy the silliness. My only concern was that maybe the director/writer thinks this is hi... Read More

Awful, just awful
Watched. Hated! The worst thing about it? For some strange reason they've tried to play one of the highest camp concepts in years... Straight. Script: awful. Acting: Woeful. Direction: non-existent. SFX: lame. Absolutely nothing to recommend here, move along, nothing to see here. I hoped it would reawaken the 8 year old boy in me, unfortunately I feel prematurely aged. Expect to see this in bargain bins in dodgy service stations soon. Avoid. ... Read More

My only previous toe-dipping into Asylum film territory was 'Monster', their Cloverfield ripoff, and that was SO FUCKING BAD IT WAS BAD! I'm sure the people making these think 'well, at least I'm making movies in Hollywood' but to fair, I'd be embarrassed to put my name to any of their films! Even if it meant my name was out there, I'd rather it wasnt! It must be SO soul destroying to work on such DROSS!! ... Read More

How can it fail to be great?
In yet another summer filled with tired sequels of old franchises this one has to stand out as one to watch. Deborah Gibson. A mega shark. Debbie Gibson. A giant octopus. DEBBIE GIBSON. It's either this or killer robot flicks and Tom Hanks. Know which side I'm on. ... Read More
