First Iron Man 2 Image Is Online
Suits. Lots of suits.

01 May 2009  |  Written by Chris Hewitt  |  Source: USA Today

As promised by Jon Favreau via his Twitter feed, the first image from Iron Man 2 – fast shaping up to be next summer’s most anticipated film – has gone online, via USA Today.

It shows Robert Downey Jr., returning as Iron Man’s brilliant but bruised creator and alter-ego, Tony Stark, standing in his workshop, beavering away on… something, while wearing a T-shirt that looks almost exactly like the glow-in-the-dark promo tees that were issued for the first film.

But the biggest point of interest in the photo lies in the background, where we can see, in a nod to classic Iron Man comic books, that Stark has every iteration of the Iron Man suit to date on display.

First Iron Man 2 Image Is Online

There’s the clunky grey armour that was the first to be built, in the caves of Afghanistan. There’s the gold armour that Stark wore for his first test flight. There’s the red-and-gold armour that he wore during the film’s third act. And… there is another.

Yep, you can see a fourth suit of armour, again of the red-and-gold variety, but somehow sleeker, shinier, newer. Is this the suit that Stark will be wearing – initially, at least – or is this just another way of showing the evolutions and tinkering with his design that have elapsed during the six months between the end of Iron Man and the beginning of the sequel?

At the moment, Favreau isn’t saying anything. But he did talk, briefly, to USA Today about his plans for the film, so zip on over there and have a read. Tell them Empire sent you.

RE: Superb...
The pics of Robert Downey Jr. on the set of Iron Man 2 in those Sonny Bono elevator shoes are funny too. He's not that short, he's 5'9, not 5'7, only problem is that Gwyneth Paltrow is 5'9 flat footed and she's in 6 inch heels for her role as Pepper Potts. That's why he has to wear those shoes otherwise she would tower over him but they are the SAME HEIGHT! o the image at hand, he looks so HOT! He's perfect as Tony Stark. More

RE: A Possibility ......
Seeing as he got through 3 suits in the first film and the gap between that and this new film, I would of thought he would of had a tinker and made a new suit. I expect when we finally see the film there will be more than 4 as well. I've never read the comics though so I don't know if that holds true to the prints. More

A Possibility ......
Could the suit on the fair right (the one dubbed the sleeker version of the MkII) possibly be the Suitcase Suit ? Feel free to disagree with me on this one but I personally think that it's a plausible idea More

VERRWY INTERESTINK..........
My Russian is a bit rubbish - but let's hope that Ms Scarlet can do justice to the Black Widow - if indeed she is playing the part....and RDJ has got the Stark role well and truly nailed. My feverish anticipation knows no bounds..... More

Yup
The two Red and Gold suits are definitely different to each other. Look at the shoulders, crotch, upper legs and upper and lower chest. The circular glowing chest piece is in slightly a different place too. The third from left also looks bulkier and a darker cherry red too. More
