Exclusive: Kick-Ass Hit Girl
11 year-old super-assassin arrives

22 April 2009  |  Written by Helen O'Hara

submit to reddit

Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass is, we are assured, a different sort of superhero movie, one with actual injuries and some serious amounts of violence. And it's one we're looking forward to immensely, so we're delighted to bring you a first look at the movie's Hit Girl, aka Mindy.

Played by Chloe Moretz, Mindy's a pre-teen assassin who's been trained by her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) since the age of four. "Think Jodie Foster, Natalie Portman and Uma Thurman rolled into one. She's an 11 year-old and she's the ultimate assassin. She kills, I think, 20 people in a minute."

The film's out in late 2009. You ca see another image from the film and hear more from Vaughn in the new issue of Empire, out tomorrow. Did we mention it's particularly ace this month? Cause it totally is.

RE: Exclusive: Kick-Ass Hit Girl
]I have to say i dont have a problem with Nicholas Cage as an actor however I do have a problem with him being cast as big daddy I mean come on anyone who has read the comic will know that Big Daddy is built like a brick s**t house. Another major gripe I have is the casting of Christopher Mintz-Plasse as red mist, when we first see Mist he is a well built adolescent nothing like the weedy CMP, Also anyone who has read to the end of issue 6 will be just know that CMP wont be More

RE: The schoolgirl thing.
She looks like an 11 year old girl in a school uniform.  Really not sure where any of you are getting the sexual angle from, I don't get that vibe at all.  Though I like that people seem to have more issue with the uniform than they do with the 11 year old holding a gun. More

RE: The schoolgirl thing.
L: THE_Simon Why is it that people lin the western world get all hot and bothered about schoolgirls? sp; Because it generally sexualises children at too young an age?   The issues in Leon were handled pretty well, IMo - completely different argument to a situation where that often in many animes male/female partnership generally seems to favour an oversized male and a female who looks and is the size of someone who is barely past puberty, if there, in sexual terms. hardly original...
It's been done before, i.e. Leon, and probably much better then too. Inappropriate really, a school girl in a uniform wielding a gun. Just what kind of message are film makers trying to send in this day and age? More

The schoolgirl thing.
Why is it that people lin the western world get all hot and bothered about schoolgirls? OK, the eastern world (i.e. The Japanese) use schoolgirls to get all the guys interested in their movies or manga or anime as this is their market, for the guys. Kick Ass looks like it's gonna be a movie mainly for the guys and I'm sure the comic book is read primarily by guys. This is a good marketing technique, that's all! Don't get your panties in a twist! Nicolas Cage!!!
Dispite the fact he seems generally cool in interviews so presumably is a nice guy I have developed an irrational dislike (well maybe not based on his last 8 years worth of material) and have an overwhelming urge to punch him in the face! when I watch Raising Arizona or Leaving Las Vegas (or to a lesser extent guilty pleasure Con Air) it's almost as if I'm watching a different person. The man in those films is surely capable of at least one more decent effort and here's hoping this is it as some More

L: dantheman123 I know that many of our finest slutty pop bands are prone to dress up in the St Trinian's sixth form style, but that girl looks like... well, a girl. Scrawny and nervous to boot, hardly replete with erotica. Schoolchildren wear school uniform, you know... ut she's pouting, girls shouldn't be photographed pouting unless their legal ages. it's just wrong because either the 11 year old slag already knows about being sexual provocative or the pervy photographer (who wa More

Never mind the fact we have an 11yr old assassin...why has Nic Cage been hired to star in this movie? If you want someone to play Big Daddy in a movie like Kick-Ass...you get Mickey Rourke...now that is a Big Daddy...Sin City anyone? More

Sorta reminds me of Mathilda is Leon. Like you mentioned in the actual article. Or Jodie Foster is Taxi driver.... Cloe will probably end up in alot of "smart" films too.... yay! And Nic Cage is okay when he's actually acting not standing there going "oh no i have to do this?" Shit AKA NATIONAL FUCKING TREASURE or KNOWING the piles of shit he's turning out.
