First day of shooting goes 'poorly'

The second video blog for production on Scott Pilgrim Vs The World has gone online at the movie's official site, giving us a slightly dark look at the first day of shooting on the film.

All in all, if we didn't know and trust Edgar, we'd be inclined to believe Michael Cera's assessment that things are going "poorly", what with the director running around concerning himself with sucking his belly in whenever the camera's on him, and his cast apparently being encouraged to play Zelda both on- and off-screen.

But no, we kid. The film, based on the indescribably ace comics by Bryan Lee O'Malley, is the story of twentysomething Scott's (Cera) attempts to win the heart of Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) by fighting off her seven evil exes in fantastical action sequences. It's funny, heartwarming without being cutesy and strangely realistic, given the weird fight scenes.

We'll be keeping a close eye on this one (and indeed there's more on it in the new issue of Empire) so keep eyes peeled for more as we get it.

I'd guess this is actually a test of whether Michael Cera can act or just plays himself in everything. I'm still not sure how the whole story will work - each comic is pretty long. Would have worked better as a TV series IMO. Probably inexplicably spread over about 4 seasons, getting cancelled once Scott has fought 5 of the evil exs... I just can't see this film working if its longer than 2 hours, as its (well the comic is) essentially an action comedy, and I can't think of one good, long act More

The books are some of my favourite of all time. And every piece of casting I hear for this has been great apart from Cera who hopefully can pull away from his awkward dry humour schtick and be a little more animated as the character can be very OTT sometimes. But I trust Edgar Wright and am looking forward to this very much. The only thing i'm questioning is, is the film going to be the whole 6 volumes or a mix of the first 3 or 4 (as the casting suggests) and leave the other volum More
