New Alice In Wonderland Pic
Sneak peek at Burton's latest

20 April 2009  |  Written by Helen O'Hara

The new issue of Empire has a few tidbits from Tim Burton's new film Alice in Wonderland, with new pics and an interview with Burton himself about the film. And here, for your delectation, is a look at Alice about to head down the rabbit hole. And yes, that must belong to a pretty huge rabbit.

Mia Wasikowska stars as Alice, alongside an all-star cast that includes Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter (perfect casting), Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, Helena Bonham-Carter as the Red Queen, Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock, Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat and Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar.

As Burton says, "I've always liked Lewis Carroll's imagery. It's so politically incorrect too, isn't it? Y'know, a bottle of something that says 'Drink me' and the mushrooms..."

For more on Alice in Wonderland, and of course lots more, pick up the 20th birthday issue of Empire when it hits stores on Thursday 23.

I'm so thrilled by this movie, though I was hoping it could avoid the same old tired mindless b*llocks like this-- "....It's so politically incorrect too, isn't it? Tim Burton
I love Alice in Wonderland, I have since I was tiny, and I'm really excited to see Tim Burton's take on my favourite childhood book/Disney film (yes.... I know. But I have seen the Å vankmajer one too!!). I just wish that Tim Burton would go beyond his obvious 'safe' casting - he knows that people will go and see a Johnny Depp film (and despite the popularity, he is a good actor). Wouldn't it have been more fitting to cast someone other than his partner Helena Bonham-Carter (whom I lo More

The cast sounds great, I'm loving the utilisation of some great British actors here. If you went by Ridley Scott's casting choices, you'd think there was no decent British actors anywhere. . . More
