First Shots From Expendables Online
BANG! CRASH! EXPLOSION! BULLET!

14 April 2009  |  Written by Chris Hewitt

submit to reddit

It’s only been filming for a couple of weeks, but the first official stills from Sylvester Stallone’s insane action pic, The Expendables, have just gone online!

In case you weren’t aware, somehow, the movie, which is pretty much number 1 on Empire’s list of films we’d like to see right bloody now, please, stars Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, Philip Schofield, Sky Sports News’ anchor Ian Payne, and Grotbags the Witch as mercenaries who try to take down an evil South American dictator.

And the four stills give us our first look at Stallone as the Expendables’ grizzled leader, Barney Ross, The Stath’s Lee Christmas, and Roberts and Austin, as Monroe and Dan Paine. There is, we’re delighted to see, an explosion – and people are running away from it. There are tough guy stares. There is a 62 year-old man running around, waving a gun at something. These are, simply put, the greatest pictures of any movie EVER TAKEN.

But don’t take our word for it – click here to check out the GREATEST STILLS EVER TAKEN for yourself.

The Expendables is currently shooting in Brazil, and will soon move to Louisiana.

RE: Anyone who has already written off this movie...
@dididave - I think you mean Rambo 4 a.k.a. John Rambo. Rambo 3 was the one in Afghanisation with him battling the Soviets. An awesome film by the way - nobody can forget that one. More

Bring on the gun show
Lets all face facts this will be the greatest action film in decades as long as that fucking '12A' certificate is kept well away. This has to be an '18' cert, maybe not quite as violent as 'Rambo 4', but up there. Just don't give us the soft Cinema release and then the uncut, hardcore, bloodthirsty DVD release 6 month later. This will rock!
Yes, Sly has made some turkeys, but this should be one of the greatest action movies ever. Glad to see that he has assembled a crew worthy of the status of action heroes, past and present from Arnie to the Stath. More

I don't know why but these stills make me hard!! Wonder what the body count's going to be? 300+? I can't wait for the trailer. You know it's going to have the 80's voice over! Starting with "He lost his wife, his family, his home, his country, his pet goldfish, his pension book..... now it's personal!" More

The man knows action!!
If Stallone knows one thing he knows how to make an action movie. Sure he sometimes oversimplifies a story and focuses on the big bangs too much but with the "who's who" of action stars, including some great actors in their own right, on the set I am positive this will prove to be Stallone's greatest finest moment (excluding the obvious Rocky). RE: Anyone who has already written off this movie...
I think we're all dubious; if it pays off it'll be legendary, if not, it'll be two stars.  I don't feel there will be any middle ground for it. More

RE: Anyone who has already written off this movie...
Well the picture I saw of Stallone you can count his six pack perfectly, not bad for a man in his 60's Stallone still rocks! This will be good. More

Anyone who has already written off this movie...
Should be forced to watch every Steven Seagal ouput post-Under Siege 2 which appeared to be his last jaunt at the big time! This film is going to be utterly sick! Credit to Sly for assembling the greatest ever action movie ensemble. I just hope the sum adds up to its parts and Arnie's big cameo is as good as it sounds. Cannot wait! More

Love the guy!!!!!!!!!!
Stallone has his critics, probably more than most movie stars but the guy can act.He even has an oscar though sadly not for acting. Sure he has had his fair share of clunkers,Stop or my mom will shoot,Oscar anyone, but he makes movies to entertain. His last Rocky movie is 2nd best in the series and the last Rambo, although not the best was still entertaing. How about Rambo 4? In Rambo 3 he returns home to his dads ranch. What if he found him murdered by some big corporation wanting his dad's lan More

Looks down and dirty
It also looks like a simple action packed ride, hope there are a few twists in movie or at least a thoroughly good friday night flick like I'm sure Crank 2 will be this weekend. But hey it's got Stallone, The Stath, Forrest 'Ghost Dog' Whittaker, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Steve Austin, Britany Murphy, Danny Trejo, Eric Roberts and guest starring Arnie of course this is going to be shit hot. Call me a cynical old schmo, but...
It looks great, and I can't wait to see the finished product. The only thing lingering at the back of my mind is that I haven't felt this excited about a high-concept, hyped-to-the-hilt movie since Snakes on a Plane. And we all know what happened there... More
