Edward Zwick On Heart Of The Sea
Whale attacks ship, uh oh

03 March 2009  |  Written by Helen O'Hara

First of all, let's not get confused: this is not a film about a heart-shaped "blue diamond" that sank with the Titanic, because that was the Heart of the Ocean. The Heart of the Sea is a film about a whaling ship apparently "stalked" and sunk by a sperm whale in 1820, and Edward Zwick is set to direct it.

Sound familiar? That's probably because it was the inspiration for Moby Dick. In this case, the Nantucket whaling ship the Essex was sunk, and its crew marooned at sea for over 90 days. They resorted to cannibalism to survive; only eight of them made it back.

Zwick and his writing partner Marshall Herskovitz wrote the script, based on Nathaniel Philbrick's book about the incident. Production is due to begin later this year.

This is one of two vengeful whale films coming up: Russian director Timur Bekmambetov is follow up Wanted with a new take on Moby Dick. Let's hope that these two films don't do for whales what Jaws did for sharks: whales are basically nice, people! They just don't like having harpoons stuck in them.

Orca the killer whale!
Im looking forward to this but I hope it does not end up in the same bracket as that travesty 'Orca' with Richard Harris. It 's so so bad! Fair enough it is unintentionally funny in parts but for the most its appalling! Fingers crossed this is closer to Moby Dick (1956) and Jaws! More

READ THE BOOK!!!
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Heart-Sea-Epic-Story-Inspired/d p/0006531202/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=123 6093393&sr=1-1 I'm very excited by this! The book is absolutely captivating and vividly written. The story really only begins with the destruction of the whaling ship by the sperm whale. What then follows is the main thrust of the story as the whalemen then put to sea in three little boats to try and make it thousands of miles across the Pacific to the safety of the Chilean co More

This sounds great. Big fan of Zwick and I'm sure the story will focus more on the survivor's story than a 'killer whale'. That'll be more Bekmambetov's film... which just sounds like Jaws with a whale. More
