Exclusive Franklyn Featurette
Behind the mask video and two new stills

17 February 2009  |  Written by James Dyer

Masked vigilantes have been the in thing for some time now but one look at Gerald McMorrow's Franklyn should tell you that this isn't your average superhero saga.

Juxtaposing modern London with an  an alternate equivalent called Meanwhile City, where the population live under the yoke of theocratic dictatorship, Ryan Phillipe prowls the streets in a headpiece that makes him look disturbingly like David Cronenberg in Nightbreed.

Interested yet? Good. You can see the trailer here but, more importantly, you can scroll down and watch an exclusive making of featurette. Franklyn is released on 27 February.

i can't wait for it to get an american release date
I've wanted to see this since i saw that first publicity still of Mr Phillipe with the Preest mask on. The more i learn about it the cooler it sounds. Its quite a bummer it doesn't have an American release date yet. You would think Phillipe is a big enough star that it could find a distributor easily. More

RE: Seen it
How is it a complete rip on the WATCHMEN???? You have either not read WATCHMEN or seen this film probably both in fact, other than ONE of the protagonists wearing a mask, it's pretty much completely different in every other respect. IT"S NOT A SUPERHERO MOVIE - how is it then Hancock or Watchmen? It might be influenced by a comic book aesthetic but that hardly makes it un-original. More

Seen it
Not great, and a complete rip on Watchmen. More

Looks crap...
Good cast but half of it looks stolen from the works of Alan Moore, which makes their assertions about it being "so original" rather ludicrous. I reckon this'll be this year's Hancock. The imposter comic-book movie that inevitably sucks. Pity about the waste of acting chops. More

RE:
Me also, I love those kind of twisted or parallel reality films; really don't know anything about the plot but I'm willing to check this out. More

Im looking forward to this film, even if it didnt rate too highly. We dont see enough the more out there, imaginative films too often (Dark City, Pans Labyrinth and the criminally ubnderrated Stardust spring to mind) and even if the Plot/acting/direction isnt up to scratch it looks as pretty as hell.
