Cate Blanchett To Play Maid Marian
Or at least that's what Mark Strong says

09 February 2009  |  Written by Emily Phillips  |  Source: Telegraph

It looks like searching for Sienna Miller's replacement for the ever-delayed Nottingham will not delay things much longer – because Mark Strong says that a replacement has been found. Making the announcement with a fair amount of certainty, Strong told the Telegraph at the at the London Film Critics' Circle Awards: "I think Cate Blanchett is set to take the Maid Marian part."

Strong should know, as he himself is signed on to play Sir Guy of Gisborne in the production, the right-hand man to Body of Lies co-star Russell Crowe who takes on the malevolent mantle of Sheriff of Nottingham.

Sir Ridley of Scott's production has been delayed repeatedly due to script, weather and casting issues – with the colour of leaves even cited as one factor. However, now that Miller has moved on to pastures new, news of Blanchett's addition could mean that the project is taking shape. Strong at least thinks that the ethereal Australian actress' presence could adjust the tone of the film, saying: "She is a wonderful actress and it would make it a much classier film if she was in it."

Nottingham continues production and was scheduled to film later this year, but Empire will steal news from the rich (producers) to give to the poor (readers – well, comparatively), if  that changes.

RE: ?
Cate Blanchett will make a good Maid Marion, Sienna Miller's too young to play opposite Russell Crowe in this role anyway. Cate's more refined looking anyway. At one point wasn't Christian Bale supposed to play Robin Hood and Russell play the Sheriff of Nottingham? Either way I'll go see it, Russell Crowe can do anything, he's got range. More

L: st3veebee Hold on, just looked at imdb.....is Russell Crowe playing both Robin and the sheriff? Ridley should get a new casting department her this film has a really tight budget or Scott and Crowe have a REALLYY solid relationship! im not sure how i feel about Crowe playing both. I'd like to see him as a bad guy (would that therefore make him Robin or the sherrif btw?) becuase i cant see him as the charming dude. just cant. cos his face turns into a gladiators and says "I will have More

RE: ?
Adding Cate Blanchett to anything is a good casting move, regardless of character history, fan hysteria or even gender.   Please say they are getting someone British or at least Irish to play Robin. I couldn't bear one of my childhood heroes appearing with an american accent.   Hold on, just looked at imdb.....is Russell Crowe playing both Robin and the sheriff? Ridley should get a new casting department More

Cate Blanchett will bring a class and an elegance to the film, whereas miller would have smiled and fallen over.  Im thinking shell have the mystery of Galadriel with the personality of Daisy from Button. A great choice for what seems like a great film. I reccomend the script its awesome! www.script-o-rama.com/snazzy/dircut.html More

She'll be a lot better.  Nothing against Sienna Miller, but Cate Blanchett is a classier actress, who I think anyway, can bring a lot more to the role. More

I read she was thought to be too tall for Russell rowe (still Robin??) but I think it was then cited as due to her gossip column negativity.  More
